My wife has worked in several daycares during high school and her time at A&M and she just gave the following tips to a friend of ours (copied from the email she sent, so excuse any parts that sound out of place)
"If you do find a place you like, go to this website
http://www.dfps.state.tx.us/Child_Care/Search_Texas_Child_Care/ppFacilitySearchDayCare.asp and search their last inspections. If they have lots of non-compliances for things, DO NOT go there. Also, if they have reports or inspections every couple of months, this does not show a good history. Good places will usually be inspected about once a year. For example, Aggieland Learning Center has had 4 inspections already this year. NOT GOOD! Some of the inspectors for the B/CS area are super picky so you might see some non-compliances for little things like someone's pacifier was found on the floor, or someone's diaper has been on for 2 hours and 15 minutes when they're supposed to be changed every 2 hours (even if they're not wet or anything)--yes, we have to throw away clean diapers. Those kinds of things are usually b/c the inspector was having a bad day or someone mouthed off to her so she was out to find something, but if you find any non-compliances for children that were unattended or left outside, any forms of physical punishment or force feeding/napping/pottying, yelling at the children, etc. --stay away!
