i'm going to be working right off of 290/Fairbanks and have done some looking on apartments.com, but haven't been too happy with the site. i'm looking for a 1 bed/1 bath preferably under $750/mo. any suggestions would be appreciated greatly.

You would probably have a wider selection on Jones Rd between Hwy 290 & West or on West Rd between Jones and Hwy 290. (have no idea of pricing)

You need to head further out on 290 and get out of that area. One of the highest crime areas in the city. There are some new apts if you exit Huffmeister and take a right (north).

Not sure. There are several complexes and I've never been in them or seen the clientele, but they looked decent and I thought it would be worth checking out. It was just a suggestion, but whatever you do, don't live at Fairbanks and 290.

Check out Trails of Corithian Creek on Jones Rd.

I live at W Little York and Hollister at a complex called Wynhaven. It's about a year old so there are few maintenance issues and the apartments are huge (1000 sq ft 1 bedroom). That being said the leasing office is a bunch of idiots and the other residents are pretty ghetto.

Check out Hollister Place on Hollister just north of Tidwell. I've got some friends that live there and they are pretty happy with it.

And if you wind up leasing at Wynhaven email me and I'll cut you in on the referral bonus of $500.

Check out Trails of Corithian Creek on Jones Rd.

Well the world turns
And a hungry little boy with a runny nose
Plays in the street as the cold wind blows
In the ghetto

And his hunger burns
So he starts to roam the streets at night
And he learns how to steal
And he learns how to fight
In the ghetto

Then one night in desperation
A young man breaks away
He buys a gun, steals a car,
Tries to run, but he don’t get far
And his mama cries

As a crowd gathers ’round an angry young man
Face down on the street with a gun in his hand
In the ghetto

I lived in Trails at Corinthian Creek for a year (granted this was about 7 years ago)

Cop cars in there all the time, for various things, domestics, car theft, break ins etc. fortunatly they missed mine.

A guy named "Juice" offered a friend of mine there a chance to go up to the party in his apartment for some nose candy. he had a visible piece under his coat.

found a dirty diaper, condoms, and feminie hygiene products in and around the swimming pool

management was terrible, I'm convinced they stole my golf clubs that I had shipped there from my amex rewards, never did get that sorted out.

I've lived in three apt complexes in h-town and it was hands down the wors.

who knows though, management could have changed and they may have cleaned it up.

For clarification, the apartments closest to 290 on Huffmeister are gov't subsidized. The ones on Huffmeister north of Cypress North Houston' aren't. I have friends/employees that live in both and neither have had any complaints. I've also had several freinds that have lived in the ones across the street from Mancuso Harley-Davidson, just south of 1960 @ 290 and they liked it fine.

Keebler-
Yes management has changed, Beeler properties aquired the property recently (~2-3 years ago). I don't live there now, but my girlfriend lived there roughly a year ago. I didn't notice any of the problems you mentioned, and wouldn't rate it better or worse crime/problem wise compared to the apartments I lived in at A&M.

With that said, Steeplechase (right next door to Corithian) is still owned by the original management company of Corithian. That place is bad, I had some friends who moved out of there right after Katrina.
