That's fair. But I want to punish them for putting my house at risk for advertising that I'm not home for extended periods of time.

I do that all the time, but I shouldn't need to do that. It's an inconvenience and I don't always notice it until hours later when I have a chance to check my cameras. I'd rather these *******s be on notice that it will cost them $250 each time they do it.

Can I file a police report for harassment? Again, this isn't something I want to do, but we live in Houston. People see a house is unoccupied for an extended period of time and it's an invitation for a B&E.

Best you can do with what is available to you is get a trespass affidavit, but then you'd have to identify and report anyone who comes onto your property if you want them arrested.

Explain your position. How are my private property rights an assault on the 1st Amendment? 1st Amendment protects against government interference with protected speech and activities. Willfully ignoring my posted signed on my private property and utilizing the government to enforce my rights does not undermine the 1st Amendment.

Have you looked into a house sitting service where someone comes by like once a week? Might be worth it for them to check other things too. Ideally find some retired guy.

Or, if you have a lawn service, see if they will gather them.

(I didn't have first hand experience with a weekly house sitting service. Just thinking of ideas.)

I hate these things. They are low effort and low return marketing campaigns that are not cheap to execute.

However, there isn't much you can do about it practically. To stop them, you will need to kill the problem at the root and make sure your entire community does not call a company from that door hanger. That door hanger number, if the company is smart, has a tracking number on it, so when someone calls on it, the company can track metrics for all advertising campaigns and use that data to decide which ones are working best.

One thing you can do is redirect the sales guy. Place a sign that says "Do not leave marketing materials here. Please text {insert a working text receiving cell number here} to set up an appointment."

For a new sales guy, that's going to be more enticing and the will to leave a hanger is reduced since it may potentially screw up what is a more promising opportunity.

When I lived in the burbs I would get Ziploc bags with a business card and a rock in them thrown on my front porch. Nothing guarantees I won't use you more than giving me three pieces of trash rather than one.
