If you have a Houston public library card, you can access old issues of both the post and chronicle. It's amazing to read excellent and detailed articles from the past. When journalists and journalism were top notch. Anyone who writes for the chronicle now can drown in their own filth. The Houston chronicle is an absolute embarrassment now

That's the only reason I have an HPL number.

It's a great resource for earlier decades when they devoted more ink and staff to local news coverage.

To their credit, the chron has stopped paywalling every damn thing. Used to be any article linked to reddit, or here sometimes, was paywall. Now, not so much. Paywall was a dumb ass idea anyway. Do they think I am going to subscribe just so I can read piss poor reporting or opinion one time? Either you are old af and getting the paper, or you will just click elsewhere.

Their paywall hasn't beaten Reader Mode yet.

I had a digital subscription to the Chronicle that I canceled years ago, but I still have access to all the articles. Best I can tell what happened was when I called to cancel, they changed the expiration date to 1/31/2031 instead of 1/31/2021. So I am currently on year five of a free ten-year subscription.

The New York Times ran a similar article as well.

So the OP article is a whole different level of bad.

But all, or most all, houston media has simply turned to posting social media clickbait posts vs providing the actual news.
