Many years ago, I followed the recommendations for Christopher Finnila to be my GP. This was a great recommendation. Unfortunately for me, in the last few months, he swapped to concierge only. I am not about that life yet. All that to ask, is there a (new) consensus for replacement? I'd like to stay at Medical Clinic of Houston, but am not opposed to making a move.

Another vote for Magid.

Exact same scenario happened and went to see Chadwick Seth Richard who is in Finilla's practice. Was nice because all history/records were already in place.

My concern has been picking any of the others listed as "hybrid". I'd assume they all end up as concierge within a few years.

I also see Dr. Magid due to previous TA thread. Great doc

Yeah. Magid went to a hybrid a couple years ago and assume he'll be full concierge at some point.

It got difficult as hell to schedule an appointment with him (and I moved a little further north) so I went to a new pcp around the same time.

I use Radoff but he's also hybrid. I like him - he's a no beat around the bush doc.

He told me his "public" patients basically cover his overhead, and his Concierge clients afford him a living. He was also excited to see that I was not too long to becoming covered by Medicare - he makes more with Medicare patients than with other insurance.

I used Radoff back in the day and liked him personally. I just hated the mandatory 30+ minute wait when I went.

I'm (fortunately) not yet in a position to need concierge or anything really from them, but it's fantastic for people who do.

I'd imagine pretty much anyone there is going to be good, I would just be open about your situation & preferences, and see what they think would be a good fit for your schedule and needs.

Interesting - I've never had much of a wait. Probably because he's hybrid now.

I'll wait for good doctors. I got used to it during cancer battles. Waits of over two hours were not uncommon. They are covering very serious stuff with other patients and being thorough, as I would want them to be with me.

If you expect a good doctor to walk in the room exactly at your appointment time you need to go to a doc-in-the-box and have them spend their allotted 12 minutes with you to write a prescription and move on.

Sorry but I think that's an antiquated way of thinking and total BS. Clinics/doctors know how exactly long appointments take and can build in a little buffer time, slots for unscheduled day of calls, etc. Especially PCP types. I go to Methodist now and hardly ever wait. I get that things can happen occasionally...but when it's a common, regular occurence, they just don't care about being timely.

Not speaking to cancer docs and other crtain specialists as that's a whole different deal.

It's ok. Lots of people are wrong about some things their entire lives. You are in a large club.

Sorry not every patient ahead of you doesn't show up with a cookie cutter case that can solved with a script for a pill after five minutes of discussion.

It's okay - I'm wrong about a lot of things. Almost everything according to my wife. But I do know that I've been to plenty of doctor visits over the last number of years where the providers were almost always on time. Guess I'm just lucky.

That was one of the best things about Dr Finnila. He would take his time and talk through anything you needed to talk about. Concierge is honestly perfect for Drs like him because he can take fewer appts and spend as much time as he wants with each patient. We moved to Bastrop 3 years ago, but we were still travelling back to Houston to see him until he went to the concierge model. Finally had to go see a new doc up here for my physical last month and he was ok…but nowhere near as good as Finnila.

I really enjoyed him during our appointments, or at least as much as you can enjoy that. It was usually once a year for physical/exam. Occasionally, one more visit for a sinus infection; however, we got to a point that I would call in and they would send a Rx. For as good as he is, he was not bad on the wait, hardly ever on time but nothing egregious either.
I know folks on concierge, and if I were at a stage for it, I would likely go that route and think Finnila is a great fit for that.
It seems a few of us are at the same spot. I guess I will check in with Radoff or Magid but I am a little apprehensive because I do not really want to go through this exercise again. I do not blame them but do not want to have to switch over and over. And/or broaden my horizons and roll the dice on someone else; it seems like anyone at this practice is going to be good.
