Oh how I wish Marvin was still alive to bust into an HISD board meeting in a peach sport coat and blue glasses and white pompadour hairstyle to start asking them some difficult questions.

This video is worth the watch. HISD just stonewalls Channel 13 on their open records requests, and 13 is not happy about it.

I'm looking forward to KTRK digging in and taking every shot they can for the foreseeable future.

"When a storm hit Houston in 2024 and devastated several communities, 13 Investigates learned a Houston Independent School District bus was caught in the middle of it on the Hardy Toll Road.

We know some school buses are equipped with cameras, so 13 Investigates' Mycah Hatfield requested the video under the Texas Public Information Act."

Ya I get the Open Records thing, but who gives a flying flip that a school bus was caught in a storm on the Toll Road in 2024.

"Sorry but that request seems to be a little unreasonable. Thanks KTRK - we will get back to you at a later date...were sort of busy trying to ride heard over all these kids at the moment."
What do you boys want for breakfast BBQ ?.....OK Chili.

So is this a dig at HISD or the state of Texas since TEA is running HISD?

This. It's a ****ty situation all around. For one, there are schools like Madison High School aka Madhouse that need the boot camp instruction. Here's the plan follow ****ing plan or get replaced because this school has failed so badly for so long. On the other hand, there are highly regarded schools that need to be left alone but Mikes ego is getting in the way.

Completely disagree. Miles was only allowed to take over HISD because previous leadership and voters allowed it to become one of the worst districts in the country. Leaving highly regarded schools alone while all the other schools got worse is how we got into this mess in the first place. All we had to do was send a few of the good teachers to the underperforming schools, and test scores would've risen. That's all that Miles did, and now he gets all the credit for the vastly improved test scores. His methods and actions are now fully justified because we refused to do it ourselves. And we no longer get a say in what happens (and deservedly so).

Everyone knows that good schools are good because they are built on "magic dirt."

Moving teachers around does nothing. You have to move the Madison kids to the Bellaire campus, where the magic dirt is, and they will instantly become physicians and scientists.

i'm going to completely disagree with you. a place like Madison doesn't get better by sending a few good teachers there. it takes strict policies to get those kids in line so they can even start to think about learning again.

I feel Miles is the Chapter 11 CEO, brought in because the last guy ran it into the ground, but has to leave not long after they emerge from bankruptcy because their re-structuring plan left too much animosity with vendors, customers, stockholders, lenders and, least consequential of all, employees

I'm like a lot of folks and in the beginning thought the Miles approach was the right one. Having kids in HISD (elementary and middle), I have seen first hand and it's a cluster. The biggest issue is more and more of the good teachers are leaving the district. It's not about fixing HISD but part of a larger agenda related to school choice and charter schools.

The end result might be the better solution but that is going to take years and kids are going to suffer. Families that have the means/options are either going to move out of HISD or send kids to private schools.. Declining attendance across the district which impacts funding. They knew the bond was never going to pass. At some point they are going to claim the district can no longer survive and alternatives have to be available.

See how much parental involvement there is at each school. And I'm talking PTO or committees. I'm talking following up with their kids to make sure they stay on top of their homework and go to bed at a decent hour and eat well and don't have a lot of other challenges.

That's a bigger key than so many other things.

There was a pretty sizable drop in school choice lottery applications this year.

Ding ding.

Lots of teachers leaving and a large amount of smart kids going to private schools so the end result will be worse, but lots of public money is now going to private pockets.

The vouchers passed but only benefit a small number of families, and there aren't nearly enough spots at the good private schools anyway.
