I have traveled both internationally and domestically to the cities that most would say are the best food cities in the world.

Paris, Lyon, Naples, London, Milan, Rome, Vienna, Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Yokohama, Singapore, Hong Kong, Mexico City, Madrid, Barcelona, NYC, New Orleans, Chicago, LA, and SF.

They all pale in comparison to Houston food.

I will say we don't have good Pizza.

That is it.

Houston is the best and most underrated food city in the world.

And our seafood sucks especially for a city an hour away from the coast.

Sorry lived in Singapore for 5 years….and I miss the food scene there. I could literally walk out of our condo and have 500-1000 food choices in walking distance, some expensive…some super cheap. Just ONE street by our condo had kopitiam, Indonesian, Korean, French, Chinese, bad ass coffee/espresso shop, and small hawker with about 10 stalls covering Indian, Chinese duck/meat, plus a western stall. There is nothing in Houston that comes remotely close to that experience.

Go look it up...oxley walk singapore is where the condo was. Walking distance to all of Orchard rd, Clarke/Robertson/boat quay to name a few....the food choices were ridiculous.

I don't know how well we compete internationally as I haven't actually lived overseas. But we're on par with any other city in the US. Except for German food. I don't know why we don't have that as a good option.

Like every massive city, you can find pretty much any food you'd want in Houston. But… there's way too many fast food places in this city to ever claim it's the best food city in America or the world.

A recent report showed that like 60% of restaurants in Galveston don't even serve local gulf shrimp! They get it frozen from Thailand....

shame.

I could easily see Houston being the best food city in America, but I'm not sure I believe that it's the best in the world. I do miss it though, now that I've left. I don't miss the weather though!

Every city in the world has tons of fast food, not sure why that is a disqualifier for Houston.

I think you're talking about all of the flavors you tasted at the Orchard Towers.

Pizaro's is definitely an oversight. I haven't had Talespin yet. It's been popular amongst the influencer crowd recently, though. The menu looks interesting.

Every city in the world has tons of fast food, not sure why that is a disqualifier for Houston.

For sure but Houston really has an obscene amount and always has relative to other big cities.

At one point not long ago, the 10 biggest fast food franchises in the world ALL had the most franchises in Houston of all of their cities globally and it was by a pretty big spread. There's only a finite number of meals to go around those places so it is likely indicative of not a great market for the food variety and quality we like to give ourselves credit for.

There's no way Houston has more than Los Angeles unless they're just counting inside the city limits.

I'm not sure if it qualifies as German food, but the Hungarian Goulash at Rudi Lechners is one of the best meals in Houston.

I don't need to "look it up." I had relatives there for a few years. I know there are good options. I just don't believe you had 1,000 within walking distance.

It's not going to work right with fettuccini noodles. Have to go with the spaetzle.

I guess you mis read my post which suggested a range and you selectively argue using only the upper end of my estimate.

Now I'm curious on my estimation so..... i put this into Grok. Prompt was walkable places to eat from the street I provided above/backed by SFA permits. Grok response - Total Range: 580-840 places to eat

Edit...screwing around with Grok some more reveals a more impressive stat. Had around 130-190 bar establishments within walking distance!
