Our main distribution center is Missouri City. We consistently do not get packages, and when we do, many times they are routed all over the country. They land there, and get shipped out.

A while back, the Missouri City Post Office landed under investigation when Representative Al Green started getting calls about this office specifically. The following came out in JANUARY 2024, a year ago.

"Given the amount of mail they deliver, I don't think it's unreasonable to think there may be some times when there are issues," Green said Friday. "But for it to be consistent and in the numbers that we're seeing is unacceptable.

"I don't know how big this (problem) is," he added, "but it seems to be growing the more I look into it, the more I find out, and that causes me some consternation. I hope we will get this resolved before the (March 5 primary) election, because mail-in ballots are very important pieces of mail."
And, another article about Missouri City, this one came out in APRIL 2024, Audit was during Jan

Audit uncovers 384K pieces of delayed mail during January inspection of USPS Missouri City facility

An audit report released Thursday found hundreds of thousands of pieces of delayed mail and several safety issues plaguing a U.S. Postal Service facility in Missouri City during a visit in January.
The USPS Office of Inspector General conducted an unannounced site visit at the South Houston Local Processing Center in Missouri City from Jan. 28 to Jan. 30, which was during the peak of the mail delays.
Well, this ****hole of a Post Office still sucks. I guess Green got the mail in ballots fixed so he's done "investigating". It's way worse now that in Jan '24. I can't have anything important mailed. I think it's actually gone from just incompetent to corruption.

Last year, I had my Aggie football parking passes sent to will-call and made the drive to CS to pick them up in person because the post office is so bad. So many of our neighbors talk about not getting packages. Not just late, not showing up. Christmas letters with checks didn't show up. The thought is that the post office in that particular location was just flat taking them. Opening letters and taking the checks. Stealing the gifts.

I recently was mailed 4 letters from the IRS, 3 of which I have not gotten. They were notices that I will be receiving checks. My GUESS is that they see IRS and think refund check and just open them. So many get checks opened at the Post Office in our neighborhood, that we just can't send or receive them.

I had to call the IRS and set up a mailing address that doesn't go thru Missouri City for the actual checks to be mailed to me.

What a pain in the ass. Would be nice if Trump/congress would eliminate the post office and turn it over to private operation.

Yea, dear diary, but does anyone else have their mail go thru that Missouri City location?

Mine does. Has seemingly been better as of late but certainly there have been ridiculous delays. My mother sent my kid a card last year. Brenham to Webster.

Took 3 weeks.

It's gone from incompetence to corruption. At least in Missouri City. They are stealing checks.

There have been many checks that have been stolen, modified and cashed. It's organized and widespread over there. I bet once Al Green started his "investigation", he found out about the corruption and is paid to protect it.

<insert "why not both?" gif here>

Used to have the same problems on the Upper East Side. But I think the post office that handled distribution out here was in SheJack's district so nothing was ever done.

not sure why you quoted yourself, but its not "required" by the constitution.

it says congress has the power to establish a post office, not that its required to

and for good measure:

questioning the post office is racist!!

Yeah, I have no idea where it's happening or if my mail passed through Mo City but we get letters from elderly family members fairly often and wouldn't you know, many of the envelopes are strangely damaged or flat out opened. I get piles of junk mail weekly with perfectly intact envelopes but somehow every handwritten addressed envelope from my wife's "uncle Bob" is torn in just the right place to see if there's money inside .

Absolutely is corruption. Close to Missouri City - our Post Office is Stafford. About 2 years ago, we had a number of fraudulent checks cashed in various cities across the US. 100% of of our business is in the surrounding Houston area. We had a couple hot checks get cashed in some podunk Ohio and South Carolina towns. Now I have to use Frost Positive Pay and upload every single check we cut weekly against Frost database to ensure no fraudulent checks are cashed. When we filed the police report with Stafford PD - they shrugged and told us this is something they're seeing more of. But unfortunately, can't do anything! Post Office employees are forging signatures off checks sent through the email.

Anyways - I hate the post office with every fiber of my being.

I wonder how they're able to cash checks without ID matching the name the check is made out to. But I probably don't want to google that.

Gift cards I can see being easier targets for theft.

In all seriousness, most USPS workers are pretty useless but I feel the exact same way about my letter carrier. I've never had a piece of mail torn or in poor condition. I guess that's what I get living in NW Arkansas vs. a large DMA these days.

I get the daily digest scans of my mail, and the only time a piece of mail was not delivered, it just so happened to be the one piece of mail containing a check from my insurance company.

Our PO is the Cornerstone PO on Walters off of 1960. When we moved to the neighborhood a couple years ago, neighbors told us not to have anything important sent via USPS. Nextdoor is full of stories of people not getting important mail and being treated with absolute distain and disrespect when going into the PO. The word is that the same family has been running the PO for decades and nothing anyone can do can get anyone fired from there.

Our postman seems like a nice enough guy. Very quiet. Just puts his head down and works. Polite when an interaction does happen.

But our PO on Judiway in Oak Forest has been caught dead to right with stolen stuff. I think they actually prosecuted that chick. However, if one goes there to try to pick up a package or need something directly from someone otherwise, the resident urchins could not give two ****s if you even exist.

The PO has become little more than high-end welfare for a certain demographic.

Par for the course- every piece of junk mail is perfectly intact but a birthday card from family is torn open.

Almost same exact spot as the other greeting card envelope. I wonder if the machine that sorts the mail is catching them there.

Maybe I'm missing something. What's the end game of "peaking" in?

you wouldn't be able to get to a check unless you opened it completely?

If they see something in there they just steal open the thing all the way, steal the check or gift card, and trash the rest of it.
Diggity

but what are they going to see? I would venture that 99% of people put the checks/giftcards/cash in the card. The crease is going to be at the top.

You wouldn't be able to see anything in that case.

For gift cards, it would be easier just to feel if the envelope is thicker in the middle, that way you don't have to open it at all.

We are on week 9 of waiting for my wifes new drivers license to show up due to name change...

Went to DMV 1/3/25 and mailed it out a couple weeks later. Early Feb still hadnt shown, she scheduled another DMV appointment and they said USPS returned it as they werent able to deliver it to our address. She verified address is the exact same as its been for 5 years and no change. Had to get a new one reissued, which it now says shipped 2/17/25... still hasnt shown up. Scheduled another meeting at another DMV next week.

Why does it take so damn long to get a drivers license through the mail? She got her voter registration right away but no license.

We are trying to make future travel plans but its a huge PITA without your new license and cant get a new passport until then either.

BTW dont bother calling the DMV either, no one has ever picked up.
