Branding them as a "student organization" seems a little ignorant, but my only context is from this thread and the articles. What if a bunch of students started wearing red bandanas and inciting a little mischief?

Many, many years ago, I was in high school marching band and we wore white shoes when performing.

Right before halftime against Memorial, we were on their side of the field, bunched up against the stands before taking the field. The Memorial students were heckling us loudly (in today's world, you probably wouldn't design a halftime show that required half your band to enter from the visitor's side of the field, but this was in ancient times).

Anyway ... as we were waiting for the half to end, a girl leaned over the railing, pointed at my feet, and yelled at me, "My maid wears nicer shoes than you."

I couldn't be mad. That was a clever line and she was probably right. But it was definitely was on brand for a Memorial student.

a generation or two ago these boys would have received their reparations for said act and it would be done. The problem is we punish the kid standing his ground and so now many won't. Sometimes, a good ole fashion azz whippin cures all or at least helps those involved find some common ground.

Life lesson... no matter how tough you think you are there is always someone that can kick your azz, choose wisely!

A few years back, some memorial kids shoe polished Stratford kids' cars with "too poor for 77024." As a resident of 77079, I had to both laugh and cry.

I hear what you're saying, but a group jumping an individual and kicking him while on the ground isn't the same as a one on one fair school yard fight from a bygone era. An individual can't defend himself from a mob, and a well placed kick to the side of the head could mean permanent lights out.
