I am part of a team of graduate students, who are looking to gauge interest from different industries about green, environmental, and sustainability initiatives. This will also look into areas of investing, donating, and sponsorship.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective. Your insight will aid in research supporting sustainable, environmental, and green initiatives by small businesses in your area.

Wow. This is what MBA's are studying? Spend north of $50K and become an expert composter. Where do I sign up?

You should get your money back...

Helped my parents set up one of those plastic composting bins one year. Turned out to be a fantastic rat habitat. It's like having a French Quarter kitchen in your backyard.

I would recycle more but the city only picks up the green every other week so everything goes in the trash in off weeks. So blame the government for lack of recycling.

Pretty sure it's all going to the same landfill anyway ever since China stopped taking our plastic and dumping into their part of the ocean.

sounds like someone is trying to start a composting business and using the guise of a mba class to get info for it.

Solar farms are the big push on Se Tx farm, timber, and ranch land. On top of all the federal tax credits and subsidies, the companies are even asking for and often getting local property tax abatements. School taxes included…

But these are not initiatives by small businesses in my area. Mostly foreign corporations sucking US taxpayers money. And local tax payers also.

Your survey needs some work if you want good data out of it:
Quote:

Do you or anyone in your organization have any experience with composting*
Need to add an option for unsure.
Quote:

Setting up "green" business practices will be challenging with my staff*
Difficult if everyone is remote or if everyone is on-site. Should probably specify office employees
Quote:

My business is open to adopting more environmentally sustainable approaches to organic waste disposal.
Need to specify what "environmentally sustainable" is. Is that a guy on a bike picking up our trash instead of a truck? A guy sorting through our trash for organics? A guy paying me to pick up my organics?
Quote:

I would participate in composting if I knew more about it.*
This line of questioning is bad. First you need to separate who composts and who doesn't. If I already compost, I can't answer this question. Then you need to ask the people that don't WHY they don't. Too expensive? Not enough room? Don't know how? live in an apartment? business in a high-rise without lawn or soil to compost on? rats? Not enough material? Then you can identify which portion of the market you are going to pursue and how big of a market that is.

Quote:

Knowing that a business is environmentally friendly affects my decision to support them.
This question doesn't provide any meaningful responses unless you specify whether the decision is affected positively or negatively. Some people purposely steer clear of green businesses.
Quote:

Getting a tax break / write would motivate my business to participate in supporting a cause
This depends heavily on the cost of composting vs the cost of the tax break. Use a question that sees how committed a business is to this. Ask what percentage they are willing to increase their trash disposal costs by to compost their organics.

I don't want your professor to discount all of your data due to inaccurate questions.

+1 on all this stuff. I had similar issues, but didn't care enough to type all that on my phone.

All excellent points.

Sadly I doubt the OP ever looks back at this thread.
