Mytiburger has put out a call for help on Facebook: "We hate to have to swallow our pride and post this, but here it is. We need help. This summer has been tough. Business is way down and we're barely making it. We're on our last leg."

Go get ya' some Mytiburger!

Used to go there a lot for breakfast. Me moving to the burbs likely didn't help.

But it was tough watching this business take a nosedive during Covid. It was often bustling in the mornings and lunch hours before Covid...and then it wasn't during Covid, and never bounced back. Was sad to watch.

Covid, or really our insanely irrational response to it, helped kill countless mom and pop restaurants and businesses across this nation. The owners statement seemed to blame it on a decline in business this summer, but I watched the decline in real time over the course of 2 years.

They should have raised their prices a couple years ago. Their menu online is way too cheap for 2023. Can't raise prices after making the online plea.

Unfortunately, their days are likely numbered

I haven't eaten there in years after I had a burger then spent the night on the bathroom floor puking my guts out.

Just can't bring myself to do it

Is this related to the location in Spring Branch on Kempwood? The one in SB has gotten awful

Full FB Post:

We hate to have to swallow our pride and post this, but here it is. We need help. This summer has been tough. Business is way down and we're barely making it. We're on our last leg.

We're not asking for charity, or investors or advice. We're just asking that if you appreciate our little 55yo old burger joint you put us on your lunch/ dinner plans the next couple of weeks.

When we bought Mytiburger and reopened it 11 years ago (almost to the day), the old owner said, "When we closed we had a line around the building, where were all those people when we were trying to stay open?"
All we're asking is that if you would come to say goodbye next month. Please come today to say hello.

Thanks

Shawn

Edit: to clear up the confusion. We're not already closing. This is an effort to appeal to our customers and avoid that decision before it's too late.

Michael Berry is giving away 300 burgers tomorrow there for LEOs, per his Facebook page.

You know it is probably actually something you ate the day before that though right?
just a note.

It sucks because it feels like that restaurants fault since that is what you are regurgitating, but food poisoning takes at least 24 hours to manifest.

Bowel stuff can be triggered pretty quickly, from my experience...but I always thought vomiting food poisoning took at least 10-12 hours to set in, often 24+?

It would help if they actually seasoned the meat a little and cleaned the damn place.

It's nothing special, but serviceable. However, every damned time I go, I'm reminded why I dislike going. The floors are so greasy you can slide on them and the tables are sticky as fly paper. It's simply gross. I hate to think what the kitchen is like.

Yeah, yeah, I know some you love a grease pit.

6-8 hours is the low end, but maybe that's specific to Taco Bell.

Yeah that 24 hour rule is garbage and likely put out there by the fast food consortium lobby to stave off lawsuits.

Probably gonna need a ruling on true food poisoning windows by an expert like the JCI disko guy just to be sure.

I live in Oak Forest and my wife and kids enjoy their corn dogs. It's been apparent of the decline the last year, hope they can pull it out.

People like to claim food poisoning. It's part of the American ethos to not simply admit that you got sick.

People like to go into work with a bug they caught and either cough up their lungs, snot all over the place, or be purging at both ends while using the excuse of allergies or food poisoning.

Food poisoning is a pretty distinct experience. It's nothing like just being sick.

First time it happened to me was on campus. Doctor at the quack shack asked me what I'd eaten, and if she was correct, it's BS that it takes 24-48 hours to take effect.

Pizza rolls at Hullabaloo in the MSC were blamed, and she recommended avoiding food that's been under a heat lamp.

Tons of Chinese restaurants, apparently taking their cues from the CCP, went under after double masking and only serving takeout well into 2022. Of course some may have also been the victims of Covid backlash, but I don't personally know anyone who quit eating Chinese out of spite for the WuFlu.

Food poisoning is the absolute suck. Even a shorter bout feels like it's never going to end and like death may be on the table. Always bounced back quick and felt like a billion bucks coming out of it though.

Oh it is common. Not doubting that. I just think a lot of restaurants take the blame for natural illnesses. Also, lots of things that are poisons could be handled better by people if they weren't carrying 75 extra lbs, with a destroyed immune system, and a horrific diet.

I went there a couple of times when I lived in Da branch back in 2012-16. It was ok. They very clearly needed to clean it and update it back then.

Just tried to get some lunch from there. Packed to the gills. Not waiting that long. Glad I decided to drive instead of walk. Sadly, back to my usual beans and rice for lunch.

Thai Gourmet is another Asian place that should have been too good to fail. I know there were shenanigans going on, but before that, the over-response to Covid drove a stake right through it's heart. Watched that one decline in real time too.

I bet authentic Asian places that were heavily frequented by actual Asians were hit really hard. In general, Asians were the group who were masking up and avoiding restaurants and public gatherings the most from my experience, and for the longest time. My wife's Korean parents were basically hermits until the vaccine came out.

I'll defer to the CDC on this one I think.

We're down to 6 JCI's now FYI. Even the JCI web page can't keep up with the closing rate as their own site says there are still 7.

I see Asian people masked up still. Often. Even driving a vehicle all by themselves with the windows rolled up.

It's weird.
