I'm glad my anniversary always falls on the first day of Restaurant Weeks. It lets me be a cheapskate for some fancy food.
We went to Hugo's this evening. There were three choices, which were basically surf, turf, and vegetarian. We usually order two different menus so we can share and try more food. I ordered the seafood/fish option and my husband had the duck/chicken/filet. Everything we had was absolutely amazing and lived up to the standards you would expect from Hugo's.
Out of everything we had, the masa cakes with duck and mole were the winner of best thing I've eaten all year. I could eat a pound of that duck and still go back for more. The horchata tres leches was excellent and despite what looked like a small-ish portion, was enough for both of us after a very filling three courses. My only complaint was the fruit tart - The custard was very nice, but the crust was too thick and very hard. There was also some sort of "lemon" gel on the plate that tasted like hand soap.
$139 for us both, including gratuity. No booze.
What Restaurant Weeks places have you been to and what do we need to go try?
