Heard water upstairs running from no where's sitting down stairs watching tv, the entire bowl just cracked open spilling water. Got a ton of towels and cut the water off drained the bowl. So doing some research I found this. It's a Vorten toilet

Lol, I'll poopoo in the backyard with the dogs before I spend 4500 on a toilet.

I saw that story a while back and checked my toilets. Bought two new Kohler thrones immediately and had my dad preemptively replace both of them to avoid disaster.

House also came with a defective A/C coil that had been recalled and a faulty valve on the hot water heater. Had the valve replaced before it failed, too. Wasn't so lucky with the A/C coil.

Why do you heat your hot water?

On a related note- check your toilet connectors. Make sure it's not this design. It has a dozen different brand names.

Well, where I live, the water coming out of the tap is usually pretty close to whatever the outside temp is. So, most of the year I do heat hot water.

But seriously, bad grammar habits die hard.

I got a few grand out of them when my toilet cracked, causing a leak that warped the engineered wood floor below. They paid 60% of the cost of the floor replacement, which I was pretty happy with since I was thinking of replacing it in the near future anyway.

Happened to us but there were 2 different class action suits based on models. All I qualified for was a new toilet tank…insurance paid the rest and they actually got my deductible back from them.

That's what failed in the condo I owned back in '09.

I pulled into the garage that afternoon, noticed water in it, and thought "that doesn't seem right." I opened the door to the place and water was flowing from upstairs all over my effing kitchen. Sheetrock had already fallen and the wood floors I had put in about 6 months earlier were toast.

I ran upstairs to see what was leaking, and the hose that fills the tank of the toilet had broken off at the wall from the effing plastic piece breaking. I hadn't used that toilet the entire time I lived there.

Glass half full...I did rebuild the entire downstairs (small condo) and was able to get way more when I sold it than others with the same floorplan were going for due to the upgrades I added. Still a giant PITA.

While you are at the ATM machine, don't forget your PIN number.

So, you go overy every inch of a house after you buy it, review whether or not it's cheap ****, and replace if necessary? Is that what you're saying?

History is full of defective stuff that wasn't cheap.

We have the same toilets and had the same thing happen about 6 months ago, but we got lucky that my daughter was upstairs and heard it before it did any damage. When we purchased the house, one of the downstairs toilets already had evidence of a crack that the previous homeowner tried to fill in, but I went ahead and replaced it at the time. We have two more in the house that I keep saying I should replace before it happens again and we aren't so fortunate.

Holy crap it takes about $150 and an hour to replace a toilet. Who the hell just tries to repair a porcelain crack.
