Without mentioning HEB or grocery stores, are there any local butcher shops in Houston? was thinking about getting a gift card from one for my brother for Christmas. I dont know of anywhere off the top of my head.

ITL RC's is probably the best if you want higher end stuff.

Stone Cold Meats is in Cypress and Clear Lake area.

There's also Chopping Block in Clear Lake but that's also OTB.

If you want 'exotic' meats, I'd say Pete's

You said no HEB but central market has done a great job for me in the past.

a gift card to central market feels like a grocery gift card.. to a butcher shop is a treat yo self gift

Probably too far, but Royalty Meats off 646 in south League City has phenomenal steaks. Love me some Stone Cold Meats, but the Royalty steaks are the best I have ever had. They have gift boxes for Christmas, if you want to do that.

I don't know what they are putting in the boxes, but the steaks I have purchased from them in the store have been on point. Expensive, but really the best I have had. If you really want your backyard to be better than the high end joints, these folks are where you want to buy.
I have no affiliation with them. I would like them to survive and thrive.

Stark Brothers beef shop. In the hood on the East side but their marinated sirloin fajitas are the best. Good steaks too. Huge selection.

What types of products do you get there? I've been a couple of times looking for nice steaks and was disappointed with the options.

I haven't been in there in a long time; is it really a butcher shop? I was thinking it was more of a retail for their prepackaged specialty meats that some grocery stores also carry? Though I'm sure they have a lot more there than you'll find in the grocery stores.

RC Ranch - american wagyu, owner is a good dude (I've known him since I was about 5 or so). You get the benefit of good quality and local. Can also order stuff online from Ryan, which is pretty convenient.

Pete's - they are a butcher shop, but more known for their specialty/exotics. Not cheap, but quality is good. Side benefit is you go there at lunch and get you a damn good burger. If you want kangaroo or python or anything truly exotic - this is your place.

Heberts - not really a butcher shop, but a quasi-exotic meat shop. None of their stuff is really exotic to me, just cajun/creole based with things like stuffed chickens, duck, alligator, etc. Can't speak for the one downtown, but the one off of Dairy Ashford that I go to has a grill and they make some hella good po-boys.

Bud's House of Meat - don't know anything about them, but they have a pretty solid menu and selection

Just stay away from grass fed garbage unless you really don't like the person you are giving the gift card to.

I've never been impressed with B&W.

Long lines. Average to above average meat. Lots of typical Texas selection, but nothing exotic. IMO, not worth it.

Agree 100%, I don't see any reason to go there vs. HEB.

schmellba with the solid write up. I would suggest Pete's, I've actually had a couple deer processed there, as well. But I've never been to RC Ranch. May need to swing by next year.

central market meat counter is fairly strong in the 'treat yourself' department, though....

As a meat market, it seems pretty basic. As a restaurant, they serve decent, yet not Texas Monthly worthy, BBQ in generous portions at very affordable prices. Their two meat plate can easily be turned into two meals.

Went to Pete's. They were super nice and I had a really good sandwhich while I watched a bunch of liquor reps go crazy buying meat. I think it'll be a fun place for my bro to check out, so I really appreciate the super helpful thread. Y'all, esp my friend Schmellba gave me exactly what I was looking for.

except for the one person that informed me that Houston is big. That guy can suck it. I said I was ITL.
