I've been having issues with major fatigue and my doctor thinks I need to do an in person sleep study. I'll be self paying out of pocket, so won't have to deal with insurance. I've been looking at reviews online and trying to figure out the best place in Houston but thought I'd check TexAgs as well - anyone had any good (or bad) experiences with sleep centers in Houston? Thanks in advance!

I believe the at home tests really only check for Sleep apnea, and we're not sure that's my issue. I snore lightly for less than an hour per night and it doesn't sound like I am struggling to breathe (I downloaded an app called SnoreLab that plays back my snoring to me). My doctor also recommended an in person, though I didn't really ask them their reasoning there. If you have any insight on why an at home would make sense for me then I'd love to hear it though, they are definitely much cheaper!

No insight. My wife did the in home and they seemed to get the data they needed to get her on the right track. If the price difference is significant, maybe try the in home and see if it is good enough.

I think Mattress Mac used to do them in the store. Obviously not Mac doing the test, but there was a group that conducted them in his store.

$250 and your wife sleeps naked, I'll watch you sleep.

Pasha Snoring & Sinus Center

They did some xrays and an at-home sleep study and ended up recommending the balloon sinuplasty surgery as well as allergy shots. It's resolved all issues I had with fatigue throughout the day related to poor sleep, that was being driven by poor breathing during sleep.

Another quick/easy test you can take is your T-Levels

Wherever you go, make sure to get a tour of the facility first. I've used 4 different places (the one I would have recommended shut down or else I would have shared it) and the quality was all over the place. One was basically a cot in a standard doctor office room. Never went back there.

I don't have a local recommendation but you're doing the right thing here. I was in your shoes in 2012. Tired. Wiped out. Low T. Did sleep study. I stopped breathing 31 seconds out of every minute. That's catastrophic if left untreated. Been on a CPAP ever since with T treatment (apnea prevents the body from getting good REM sleep. Without this your hormone levels fall). I feel great.

Good luck!!

I had surgery done by this guy about 13 year ago. Reduced my turbinate size and corrected my deviated septum. Really helped me breathe better.

I get my CPAP supplies through Apnix and they do sleep studies. They have several locations around town.

I did an overnight study through Medical Clinic of Houston in their in-house sleep lab.

Glad I stumbled across this thread since I could probably benefit. I absolutely suck at sleeping and have been progressively become more of a miserable person. Hopefully I can get some answers.

Do you need a referral for the at-home testing? I do not have a PCP currently to refer me anywhere.

No referral needed. I used Lofta and did an at home last year. Been using cpap ever since and been a huge difference.

Thanks! I just checked my insurance and it looks like Pasha Sinus is in-network. I also hit my deductible for the year, so hopefully they can get me in before the end of the year.

I used Heartstrong, they've been on Texags for a bit as an advertiser. They got me a virtual visit with a doctor, who mailed me the at home sleep kit, reviewed the results virtually, and set me up with heartstrong as the equipment provider.

Everything went super smooth. If your having an afternoon cup of coffee to stay awake, go sign yourself up now for a sleep study.

Definitely do the test at home if possible. Trying to get a good night's sleep in a random facility with all these wires all over you is terrible.

i was in the same boat, a sleep study made a huge difference. after waking up there using a CPAP the first time, i felt like a new human being who had slept 36 hours. unfortunately the place i did mine around the beltway and memorial isn't around anymore it doesn't look like.
