Concerts at MMP

I am having a hard time understanding the uptick in concerts at Minute Maid Park. The accoustics are not good, the sightlines were designed for a baseball stadium so they aren't great either. I believe the concert layout has the stage in CF, so the seats that actually face the stage are generally a LONG way from the stage, and folding chairs on the field seem like a crappy setup as well.

I know the venue seats more than Toyota Center or any other arena setting in the area, and is much smaller than NRG, but I really don't get the appeal of seeing a concert at MMP.

Am I missing something?

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

It is the middle point venue.
Toyota - 19k
MMP - 41k but closer to 30ish for concerts I believe
NRG - 72k

I prefer it over Cynthia Woods purely because it's not 30 miles away.

Saw T Swizzle there a few years ago.

Distinct home field advantage for the Astros because they know where all the divots, holes, and other bad spots in the outfield are.

Nothing like ACL's and ankles getting paid $10M+ a year running over a gopher field.

The appeal is seeing a concert in a venue that doesn't typically do concerts.

Kinda like a bowl game in Yankee stadium or Wrigley field.

It's pretty limited and if you can see an artist you like in a venue that doesn't typically have concerts there's your appeal.

Acoustics at NRG suck ass, but are pretty decent at the Toyota Center. I imagine they are somewhere in between at MMP.

Depends on the performer I think. I went to Stapleton/Eagles in 2018. Eagles accoustics were pretty good. However, Stapleton sounded awful in there. Not sure if he was having an off day or what, but was not impressed with him at that show.

Good thing they replaced all the grass recently so it's good for the playoffs.

Heard the same thing about NRG. Saw The Rolling Stones there a few years ago and the sound was much better than expected.

Saw Paul McCartney at MMP several years ago. Acoustics were ok. We sat near where 3rd base would be and let like the stage was a mile away.

Saw the Eagles at the Toyota Center March 2020 and that was the best sound I have heard at a live performance.

McCartney at MMP was 10 years ago, I was there. I thought the sound was great. Sat in the club section up the 3rd base line.
plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose

At two of the three of these concerts and agree about NRG and Toyota sounding good, thinking about seeing Elton in MMP this winter. Will be curious to see how it compares to GBYBR at Toyota

MMP for concerts is bad. Not a good setup. Poor sound.

Verlander is expensive.

Concert revenue funds player salaries. Please go to more shows and take your friends.

Pretty sure Minute Maid is owned by Harris County-Houston Sports Authority, does Crane have exclusive rights to rent out the stadium when the Astros aren't playing there?

Saw Billy Joel at MMP couple of weeks ago. The sounds was actually much better than I expected (roof was closed).

The stage was set way back in center field so sitting down the 3rd base lines in the stands put the stage miles away. I expected the big screen to be on, but it wasn't. The stage has smaller screens, but not as good IMO.

I was up on the 3rd deck and it was hot as ballz. Walked down to 2nd deck corridor to cool off half-way through the show. They saved money that night not running the AC. All the middle aged women going through the big change were complaining.

I saw Paul McCartney at MMP and Toyota Center. Thought the acoustics were much better at MMP, actually.

I've noticed the past few years that anytime its been above 90 outside, I have found the upper deck to be hot and uncomfortable. Its not as hot as it is outside, but its a good 10 degrees warmer than in the concourse or the seats that are lower and the air is just stagnant. I don't remember it being that noticeable a few years ago unless you were in the top few rows behind where the AC vents are. Either the AC got turned down or its lost some efficiency.

I went to the McCartney show as well. Imagine the look on my brother's face as we walked to it and he realized they weren't closing the roof, it was 48 degrees, and he didn't bring a jacket.

Does MMP have a heater?

Seems like the AC is designed to blow right over the cheap seats and to the lower bowl/club at MMP.
