Not sure how Killen's is handling quality control with the number of restaurants he's opened. Not to mention the fact that if you follow him on social media he's basically been on a different vacation every week this year....

And not spring branch, but I'd make the 10 minute drive to Truth.

I haven't followed them in years. I'd rather go to Roegels or Pinkerton's than either one i mentioned as well.

I feel Virgies is more about the pork. I work 5 min from there and have had it a number of times. If you're a beef bbq guy like me, I'll pick Aunt Pookies any day, and that's not to say Aunt Pookies is particularly outstanding. Virgies got the pork, for sure, but their beef is not worth the drive for me. Just my opinion.

How is Carl's BBQ off 290 and Telge? I passed by that the other day on the way in and smiled that it was still there. That was solid hangover food about 25 years ago when there wasn't sht for BBQ in Houston.

No. No. Just no. Forget barbeque, that place is a hygiene disaster.

I'm right here in Spring Shadows and the BBQ I cook in my backyard is better than anything around here.

So the answer is my backyard.

Not Spring Branch but Heights area so not far … Pinkerton's as mentioned earlier. Went to Gatlin's on TC Jester and it was pretty good. Went to Fege's in Spring Branch soon after opened, haven't gone back. Get to Pinkerton's early.

Yup was a solid burger back when I was in HS. Would hope it's still good but would be afraid that I'd go and be disappointed like I was recently with Willie's burger.

The last time I went the place smelled like raw sewage. Haven't been back.

Is 529 BBQ still there?

529 was legit back 15-20 years ago. Haven't been that way in quite some time cause that area sucks.

Another fan of Virgie's here.
I was in the room here one day... watchin' the Mexican channel on TV. I don't know nothin' about Pele. I'm watchin' what this guy can do with a ball and his feet. Next thing I know, he jumps in the air and flips into a somersault and kicks the ball in - upside down and backwards... the dang (sc) goalie never knew what the hell hit him. Pele gets excited and he rips off his jersey and starts running around the stadium waving it around his head. Everybody's screaming in Spanish. I'

I'm a huge fan of Roegel's on S. Voss.

Roegels is really good, and it's a short drive from spring branch. His daily specials are legit.

Feges is good but isn't your typical bbq joint. It's more like a restaurant with smoked meats. That's not a bad thing. At all.

Really, really good people own and operate both those spots so it's easy to support them.

Went for a late 2pm-ish lunch today and it was great. The fatty brisket was phenomenal and the ribs were excellent.

10% off if you have a holstered firearm and show your carry license. Dude was cool and has pro-gun and anti government stuff up all over the place. Seems like someone who has been effed with before and wants to make sure it doesn't happen again. This will definitely be my go-to bbq place from now on, esp when the weather gets better.
