Pretty cool to watch the only surviving battleship from both WW1 and WW2 in the water and creating some wake. Going to get some repairs done.

My buddy was trying to be the pilot on there but indont think the job lined up for his spot in the rotation.

My folks have a neighbor whose dad was a deckhand on one of the tugs when they Parked her there back in the 50s. Fast forward to 1988, he now was one of the senior ship channel pilots and drew the assignment of taking her down to Galveston. Kind of a cool full circle.
Maybe a dumb question but is it being towed or is it actually running and propelling itself with just guide lines (guess that's the right terms)?

It's being towed.
I'm actually in our offices in Galveston today so I should be able to get some pictures from our building later on.
Just on the other side of Pelican Island now.
They're moving into the dry dock now.

All I've seen is that it won't be back there. They've got a while to work that out though.

I don't believe the San Jacinto Monument folks want it back. Thats from someone that volunteered their time to help maintain it.
I believe Galveston wants it and I bet it goes right across the channel between the Elissa and Ocean Star.

I've read that it needs 3x the revenue it was making at La Porte to be self sustaining, so it's not going back there.
Galveston is pushing to be the permanent home. Seawolf Park is not likely to draw near the number of visitors as the Galveston side of the ship channel.

Galveston is far from being a done deal. Baytown and Beaumont are also formulating proposals for a final destination.

Sorry for the hijack but in the last several years having met a couple pilots, a tug captain, and knowing your career I have to say those are the kinds of careers that unless you grow up on the coast nobody ever tells you about.
Granted they can be tough gigs and sometimes difficult to get. Also, in your case, tough on a marriage/family. But they're definitely careers that had I had any awareness of when I was in high school I probably would have seriously considered that path.
I've got a new gig that us MUCH better on home life. Id gladly tell you about it on pm or something.
Corpus didn't submit a proposal. Generally when you have 2 boats together, they divide the revenu between them instead of increasing it.oldmanguy said:

The battleship foundation guy mentioned Beaumont and Baytown on the news, but Galveston is the only place that makes sense if it's leaving LaPorte.
