Has anyone had their AC coil replaced recently in their house? If so how much did it cost you? Labor vs parts.

It's been a couple of years, but I used Quality Comfort Air and it was over $3k, labor and parts. IIRC, the coil itself was about 2/3 of the cost and labor was 1/3, but I could have that backwards.

Have you checked the warranty?

Ours crapped out in April, 2 months after we moved in. AC company ran the warranty checked and we were still covered. Was one of the cheaper move-in fixes we've had.

The coil itself is under warranty. It's five years old so labor isn't covered.

That said, I believe we were $1600ish.

Had our crappy install Artic Air coil replaced. $1,000 in labor. 2019 I believe

I'm on my 3rd coil. First replacement was under warranty. I believe the coolant charge and labor was $1200, but that was about 7 years ago.

When you get the new one, make sure they file new warranty paperwork. The company that replaced my first one did not do this. So, when the second crapped out in less than 5 years, there was no record it had already been replaced, and I was on the hook for parts and labor.

I'm replacing an artic air coil also that was installed in 2018. Place I'm using is around $1800 which I guess is probably avg nowadays.

Is your A/C working fine now? If so, get American Home Shield. $50/month and there is a 1 month wait period. They replaced my coil for the $100 service fee. Have also replaced a garbage disposal, dishwasher and a part in my washing machine. Been with them for 3 years and the coverage has more than paid for itself.

Not using Artic Air. Last time I used them was 2020. I didn't realize Mike no longer owned the business at the time.

Mike is a piece of **** and so was Artic Air with him at the helm. That **** sack and everyone associated with him can die slow.

What's with the hate for Artic air? I feel like I missed a story. My experience with them was aight, got what I paid for which was a corners-cut install for the cheapest price.

Paid $1485 for labor in May. Coil was under warranty.

Not to hi-jack, but who is the Tine board's favored A/C company now? Think I need a freon bump to one of my units.

Recommend Mike Buck, owner of Buck Air & Heat Residential HVAC repair and replacment

He's retired DPS. HIs and his son's AC company.

Mike is good people.

He's in the Cypress (Louetta/249) area, but I imagine he'll travel some. Or may be able to recommend someone else if he can't help you.

Arctic Air has all 1 star reviews on Yelp and their website now takes you to a baby ultrasound site

I had good service with AIR Express located on the west side. They installed a new American Standard unit years ago that apparently had a bad compressor. They had to come out a few times to repair within the first 3 or 4 months and I pushed back arguing I had received a lemon and demanded a new unit. The owner agreed and installed a second new unit with no issues. It's been problem free for 3 years +. Best part is that they were the lowest priced when I compared against other AS/ Trane dealers. Good experience overall.

Was quoted $190/lb for R-22 freon yesterday by Premier Air. Sun Air is charging $145/lb. My 3.5ton unit just took 5 lbs.

just curious if they used REAL R22 or the knock off? It has been quite some time since we purchased or used any R22 freon as it is outrageously expensive. We even got to the point that we had to write a disclaimer on our invoices that there is no guarantee on how long freon will last because when you put $5-600 or more of freon in a system and it leaks out over night (because sooner or later that pin hole leak is going to rupture) the customers get mighty ticked off when it's gone. I got tired of having to explain that over and over and yet still be accused of not telling people it could be gone overnight.

Had Wise Guys out to look at the AC in my rental property. The tech wanted to replace the entire unit for $10k because it is an older style unit. Had another company come out that repaired it for $150.

Which company came out to do the repair? Always good to have options during peak season.

Had a similar experience a few years ago…

I passed a van on the freeway the other day that said ARCTIC Air Conditioning. Is that the same company mentioned above with horrible experiences?

I'm on this thread a little late but if you need AC work I highly recommend Galen Beede at Beede AC and Heat. He replaced the coil inside our house with a Goodman unit that comes with a 10 year warranty. I think it was about $1600. He even registered the warranty for us.
