Preferably on South side of town or around med center, and would be ready within two weeks.

I suppose I'm more wondering if anyone has opinions on where to buy since renting season is in its peak because of prom stuff and it's last minute.

Theblacktux.com.

Just do it. Seriously. Way better quality, easy way to rent, deliver to your door.

You can buy a tux but you're seriously not going to get enough wear out of it before you get fat and it doesn't fit anymore.

Theblacktux.com is the only way to rent.

Can they do something within 2 weeks? Just ordered my first tux from them for a buddy's wedding and he's freaking out that some of the guys aren't going to get theirs in time because they're backed up. The wedding is in late may.

I'd also say they're on the expensive side from what I remember, but it's been a long time since I've rented a tux prior to this

I haven't done if since before pandemic but yes it was available in less than 2 weeks. Back then it was similar price to men's wearhouse, may have gone up, I don't know. But the quality is much better (real wool suit, leather shoes instead of polyester and rubber shoes).

Plus, what is it worth to not drive to the store and sit in line behind 18 year old prom goers? Only to have them get your stuff wrong and make return trips? Black tux overnights replacement stuff to you if it doesn't fit. You keep it all and just mail everything back at once at the end. It's super convenient.

I'm telling you, never rent in person again. There's no reason.

This is the way to go. They got my tux in January to me within 3 days.

Not sure what your price range is but Festari treated me well recently for a tux purchase. Will run around $1000for some of their off the shelf options.

I bought a tux (Kenneth Cole was the brand) at Nordstrom Rack off Bunker Hill for like $250. Spent another $100 or so on getting it tailored. Worn it to 5 weddings and another black tie event or two since 2019. Renting an ill fitted and crappy quality tux would have cost me close to $200 per rental. Buy yourself a tux and save the money you'd spend on rentals to get a gym membership!

You are 3 standard deviations off the mean for at least 3 metrics in that post.

I guess I'm just shocked tux rentals are over 200 bucks now. Why not buy one for a little more even if I only use it 2-3 times it would pay for itself.

Black tux is good quality. All wool, cotton shirt, silk tie, real leather shoes.

If you can really buy all that for less than $500, my hat is off to you. And if you are like Mr. Peanut and wear a tux like more often than once every several years, and if you never want to change styles, then I guess renting makes no sense.

If however you are a normal human who shops at stores in the real world, then you might want to consider renting through black tux.

PSA over.

Gonna agree to disagree with the Mr. Cheese. If we are talking about a rental tux we aren't talking some bespoke custom job that will set you back tons. Shop around and get it cut to fit locally. Jos A Bank puts you a ~$550 to purchase everything and that is without any sales or shopping around, and assumes you don't already have a pair of dress shoes, a shirt, etc. Wear it twice and you are close to breaking even, three times you are making money lol.

If you're a dude in your 20's I definitely advocate buying a tux.

I got married at 28 and got a made-to-measure tux from Harold's in the Heights (RIP). So not full bespoke but not off-the-rack either. This was late-2004/early-2005 and I paid like $1500 for it along with a couple custom shirts and real bow tie.

Until just a few years ago I typically went to a couple black-tie events a year for Mrs. TC's work and a couple for mine. I got sick of going to them so I don't anymore, but I digress.

I wore that tux for several weddings and 1-2 black-tie events per year. Last time I looked at renting a tux was before I bought mine and it was about $200 for a rental. I can't imagine it's gone down. Figure at least 30 times I wore it between 2005 and maybe 2019 and I definitely got my money's worth.

Also- learn to tie a bow tie and not use the clip on crap.

Bought one about 10 years ago for about a G. They threw in a white dinner jacket for another hundy to close the deal. Don't wear it a ton, but nice to have on the ready when I need it. And to whip it out for a night wedding that is black tie optional is baller. Same with a nice company Christmas party.

When I wear the dinner jacket, I get a red boutonnire and go full Connery Bond.

Buy one. You'll feel about 50% cooler once you do.

I bought a ****ty JAB tux 15 years ago, wore it a couple times, then finally threw it out last year because it was completely out of style and didn't fit.

just another data point

I wish I had bought one in my mid-20s. For about 10-15 years, my wife or I were in about 20 weddings or more. If I had bought one, I would also have worn it to some other events, too. Now that I'm old enough that my friends are getting married for the second time at the courthouse, I really don't need one.
