The lights on Quincannon by the Johnson's was killed of last year due too the neighborhood grinches complaining too much about the traffic. Social media had made it to big of a deal and the grinches killed a decades old tradition.

This is their responses this year, has reignited the neighborhood Facebook fight for sure.

How the grinches stole our Christmas display

It's Christmas we know, but we're sorry to say
Some in the neighborhood have stolen our display!
It could be their heads weren't screwed on just right
Or it could be that their shoes were too tight.

But we think that the most likely reason of all
May have been that their hearts were
TWO SIZES TOO SMALL!!!

This was their display last year for comparison.

What is that building at the end of the cul-de-sac on the left? Was that a home? Its 15x the size of the small ranch style home next to it. Damn.

Also, the monthly storage bill for all that crap is probably as much as my mortgage.

Click can understand hating the traffic, but those neighbors are definitely grinches

Yes, he owns 6 or 8 lots on the end of the Cul de sac and some land behind.

You're not seeing the private 3 hole golf course, tennis court, pool house, etc. Family owns Metro national that developed all that area, memorial city, etc.

The water is a water feature in addition to hazard...

They have a little beach there and then a big rope swing tower on the south end of it.

Still too much water. My golf ball bill would be too high. Then if course, I wouldn't give a flying F at that point ha. Really I'm just jealous.

To be fair I would be pissed if I lived in that neighborhood, there's only one way in or out. Some neighbors have been complaining that it's taken up to 2 hours to get to their driveway once they turn into the neighborhood.

It also attracts a lot of gross apartment people, so just another reason to get rid of it.

Not really, just happy I don't have to get dragged out of the house this year to go look at some colored electricity.

Not a single eff given. They fought tooth and nail a few years ago to block a second entrance being added. Originally that section would have had like 6 additional through streets.

And an lol poor, Karen at that. I just take up my second residence in West U when the Christmas light goers of river oaks make traffic too bad to get home

I image that was to limit traffic into the neighborhood, which this kind of thing would be the opposite.

That was one street, for those that remember driving through Prestonwood subdivision in the 80's was miserable!
Bumper to bumper on every street.
I was in the room here one day... watchin' the Mexican channel on TV. I don't know nothin' about Pele. I'm watchin' what this guy can do with a ball and his feet. Next thing I know, he jumps in the air and flips into a somersault and kicks the ball in - upside down and backwards... the dang (sc) goalie never knew what the hell hit him. Pele gets excited and he rips off his jersey and starts running around the stadium waving it around his head. Everybody's screaming in Spanish. I'

Still is. I could never live there this time of year (which I'm sure is in HOA before moving in)

Well, yeah, they did want to limit traffic. Then they would also turn around and argue that one of their big concerns was having an emergency and emergency vehicles couldn't get in.

You know what would fix that? More than one entrance.

Many of the same Karens on the lights also clucked the hardest when they've been blocked in to the neighborhood for multiple hours. One by a major gas leak and then another by a stuck, jackknifed eighteen wheeler doing a delivery at the front of the neighborhood. No one in or out... sounds like a crappy situation to me.

Again... a very nice fix to those concerns...

I'd also probably be pissed if a neighbor turned my neighborhood into a tourist destination that required additional street access created to alleviate. I don't really blame them.

That's the way the neighborhood was originally built...

All the shorter streets are cul de sacs. All the longer streets are dead ends with road barricade signs on the end... They were originally laid out and built out to be connected...

Short street from the map:

Long street from the map:

Odd way to do streets if you never intended for something else to happen.

If they could just extend that quincannon street across the bayou, they could force tourists to use one entrance and drive clockwise only and residents to use the other one and only drive counter clockwise. That way tourists, wouldn't significantly affect access times for residents. It would require a pair of security guards at night to enforce, but it looked like that house already has at least 1 on the payroll. Might take a few extra minutes for residents to get out or get in, but would be a good compromise.

However, that will never happen. Residents will always want their streets cut off so others can't cut through their subdivision (all while they cut through other people's subdivisions).

Yikes. Pecan Grove gawker traffic is bad, but not that bad. 45 min crawl home is pretty common starting mid-December.

I mean, I had a buddy that used to work in one of the galleria area towers that pre-covid, it could take like 30 minutes to get out of the garage at Christmastime because of all of the shopping traffic.

That's really weird. The highest street number for Quincannon Ln on hcad is 3015.

Then just beyond that is the huge house's garage, at 3027 based upon the address on the curb, and the huge house, the address on the curb is obscured on Google. There are also a bunch of vacant lots on the end over there.

HA! Found them:

  • Look up account number 1112750000005 for 3023
  • Look up account number 1112750000006 and 1112750000007 for 3027
  • Look up account number 1112750000008 for 3031

All appear to be owned by the same person.

The owners are the owners of Metronational who are the developers of Memorial City. That is why the owner address on those properties is the office of Metronational.

I didn't post names and you actually have to get dig to get to the names. One of the listings doesn't have a name at all even with digging.

I meant me. I posted the names for all 4 of the accounts you listed. It's really not difficult to find at all, but I didn't want this to turn into the under the bridge property thing.

Edited the other post to be more clear

We had already talked in the thread about who owns it and I'm pretty sure it is pretty commonly known info so it shouldn't be to worrying.

Everyone I've ever known in that family or at that company thoroughly enjoyed being known and talked about, so I wouldn't worry too much about this top secret info. There was also a big thread on r/Houston that probably got tons more views than this one.

Well, the Johnson display is the victim of its own success. Since 7 years ago, I took my kids to see the awesome display every year. The traffic wasn't that bad 7 years ago, but it progressively got worst each year.

I wouldn't blame the Johnson or the neighborhood leading to the display. People are increasingly posting on social media like Facebook or Instagram after they went to the display and others flocked there as well, creating the mess.

The last two years were bad, even with police escort, residents could not get home easily after a long day of work or simply went out for an errand. They probably felt like prisoners for a month. People were even blocking the intersection on Gessner, it was just a mess and even dangerous.

I love seeing the display but I wouldn't want to build our happiness on someone's suffering. It's not the spirit of Christmas and I wouldn't want to teach my kids that way.

Please don't fight this among ourselves like we fight on covid. The neighborhood was designed with single entrance to reduce trespassers and crimes. Creating an entrance just for a month each year sounds intrusive and expensive. Who's going to pay for it?

I think to continue on the tradition, relocation is the only option. To a location where there are multiple entrances and not in a residential area. I know it may sound farfetched, but with many empty office buildings, retails, and parking lots due to covid, we can be creative and achieve our goals to keep the tradition and everybody happy.
