Any members in PTOH? Business interest but unsure what activity is. Personal interest because father was a member for many years and would like to take my mother there for dinner as she has great memories. Just don't know what it is compared to 25-30 years ago.

I think all these clubs are pretty much just old guys now. I hope to be an old guy one day.

They renovated several years ago and tried to update it. My old company had a membership there and it was ok for lunch (buffet) but I went a few months ago and it was like a ghost town. Very small menu and I think one other party in there besides us.

Pre-pandemic, they would do stuff at night to try to draw people in (wine tastings, Valentine's stuff, etc) but not sure how many people they drew.

I didn't mean it in a bad way; I'm fast approaching "old guy." But I only get invited to the cool clubs as a guest, so I really don't know.

Ate there many times during the late 90s and early 00s. Also at the Houston Club. Then again, I was their auditor.

Out of all the clubs, The Men's Club is the best. Excellent breakfast buffet!

Way back the Post Oak Pharmacy had a lunch counter that we called "The Linoleum Club".
I feel so much better since about 11 a.m. CT on 20 Jan. 2025

The old space at 800 bell (old Exxon building) was awesomely outdated. Had that "if these walls could talk feeling".

The new space is just like any other non-distinct restaurant/country club/ event space. Move was a big let down, only been a handful of times.

Hearing about places like this always makes me nostalgic, thinking about the days when you had to wear a suit to work, everybody smelled like smoke, grown men didn't exercise except when doing chores, and the only skill that mattered was BS-ing your way to the next deal so you could hit the scotch. Men were more in touch with their mortality then, probably because they dropped dead on the job regularly.

I also think of all the places we used to go when I was a kid. They seemed like awesome cultural experiences, and nowadays people would just go "what the?" Places like Fort Shiloh, birthday parties at McDonalds (and the awesome death trap merry-go-round!!), the bleachers at Arlington Stadium...

I did a birthday party for my kid at McDonalds a few years ago. While being cheaper than the alternatives, I do not recommend it. Let the memories of it being awesome as a kid stay just that

pro tip...set up a "slip & fall" with one of the kiddos by spilling some Orange Fanta (or use existing Orange Fanta spill if applicable) in the PlayPlace and the party pays for itself!

I've found it's best not to give the kid any advanced notice so that the fall is more believable.

I fell from the top rung of the ladder inside Hamburglar during a rainy day birthday party, about cracked my skull open. After a towel full of blood and a trip to the ER, I'm no worse for the wear (or so I've been told). Alas, the ambulance chasers put an end to fond childhood memories of celebrations of mustard, pickles and cold wet steel.

Played a few gigs there many years ago. Place was an absolute PITA for someone hauling and setting up a drum set.

Ha. Kids and I were channel-surfing the other night, and I got them to watch an episode of Hart to Hart. They're having this massive after-hours party at their house, and apparently it's only for employees, not for spouses. Same thing in Die Hard - huge party on Christmas Eve...employees only. I can't even imagine a ritzy shin-dig on Christmas Eve, and I really can't imagine a company not inviting SO's. Was that really a thing? If so, no wonder Boomers seem so clueless at times.
