Friend is taking me into town tomorrow to pick up my car, so we are going to make an evening of it. We have tentative dinner plans but would like some happy hour suggestions.

We are 40+ but look pretty good for our ages (if I do say so myself). She likes to think she's a cougar.

Where should we go that's age appropriate? We aren't looking to get trashed on cheap beer at dive bar. Let's keep it classy.

Car is in the 59/610 area, but we can go anywhere.

Before anyone asks, no rule one, but please help a gal out anyway. Y'all came through on brunch suggestions when my son did an altar server thing at the Co-Cathedral.

River Oaks District is a safe choice. Loch Bar, Steak 48, Le Colonial, etc.

Turner's is fun too, but I think it's still closed from the kitchen fire.

Boudreaux's Cajun Kitchen gets pretty lit.

Great suggestions everyone...I appreciate it! I was sold on Steak 48 or Le Colonial, but now we are thinking The Rustic. It's hard to decide!

The question is whether or not y'all are publicly-traded money?

I was trying to remember that quote! I was going to reference it in my original post, but I couldn't remember it exactly!

We are 401k money.

Rustic is fun if you want to stay at one place.

Nice thing about River Oaks District is that you can hop around to different spots.

You can also wait in line to buy fancy French ice cream shaped like tulips if that's your thing.

The people watching will be fantastic all around there.

You can't just unilaterally declare there no rule one. Doesn't work that way.

This board demands pics of hot cougars.

That's what I want to do...people watch!

We have a 745 dinner reservation at Xin Chao (her choice). Depending on traffic, we may be starting happy hour a little early (5-ish, or a little before).

Haven't been there. Looks like the old Beaver's, which was always a cool spot.

Have fun!

If you're just looking for good food and good drinks. McCormick & Schmicks is hard to beat for happy hour.

If y'all are on the prowl, maybe not the right place.

Not on the prowl. Just want to be some place age-appropriate, taking into account she tends to prefer slightly younger company. Neither of us wants to hang with the geriatric crowd.

Although I do not get to go very often, I agree with this. I used to love their happy hour.

The places mentioned in the River Oaks District are good. I'd also suggest Perry's on West Gray which has a really nice (big) bar area. Federal Grill on I-10 is very popular and a nice place. Haven't been to Brasserie 19 on West Gray in awhile, but it was always good for some people watching. La Griglia on West Gray is a good spot also. Didn't list any "dives" that I like, kept it upscale.

I came here to post this. IMO Mccormicks has the best happy hour in Houston. Plus there are always ladies in your demographics that are sitting at the bar. Ive always liked MKT bar as well. Uchi has a good HH. Maybe Better Luck Tomorrow.

Honestly I would skip the rustic. The food, drinks, and service have sucked every single time Ive gone. Good atmosphere but thats about it. Also overpriced.

We had a birthday party for my wife and a few of her friends there and the service was awful.

Sounds like that wasn't an outlier.

Great setup but **** execution by management. Maybe they figure the crowd is transient so they don't care.
