How long do you want to ignore this user?
Anyone using them now or used in the past? Got a service advertisement from them offering what appears to be solid rate + paying up to $150 cancellation fee from other provider + $75 gift card for switching.

These types of gimmicks make me nervous. I talked to a guy on the phone from there as well, but wanted to check my TexAgs experts bc of course, we know stuff.

Thanks and Gig'Em!

I've never seen that tiered flate rate style of billing before. The rate above 2,000 kWh is high, but if you are consistantly between 1,000 and 2,000 it doesnt seem like a bad deal.

Yes we are generally between 1000-2000 kwh until we get into December - March when our usage is usually below 1000

So if you use 1001 kwh you would be paying $0.16/kwh. At 2000, $0.08/kwh. If you are just under 2000kwh a month it is a decent deal but if you average ~1700kwh or less the deal stinks.

what should a good rate be signing up now for a 12 month fixed?

I always look to keep it under $0.10/KwH when all is said and done

Gotta make sure you account for not only the energy charge, but also the TDU pass-through charges

At this time of the year, we are in the 1400-1800 ballpark then will drop below 1000 by November/December time

Do you have a smart thermostat? If you are willing to manage your usage you might want to check out Griddy; I joined last month and have averaged $0.06-$0.07/kwh all in so far. No contracts. If you want to try it I'll give you my referral code that will give you a $50 credit.

I am not familiar with Griddy. It gives me an estimated cost then there's a $9.99 monthly membership fee. The rates I am getting through other companies are about $0.095/kWh and Griddy is "quoting" me at about $0.105/kWh

EDIT: I do not have a smart thermostat

I guess everyone forgot about the Griddy fiasco last summer...

With Griddy you pay the market rate, which is usually ranges from negative two cents to five cents a kwh before transmission charges, but can spike to $9 in very rare circumstances. If you can't adjust your AC remotely then it is not worth the risk.

Griddy is used by some, but I think Energy Ogre is by far one of the best out there. Check it out at www.energyogre.com/r/cru if you are interested.

I think there's someone on here who works for Energy Ogre who might be able to answer a question for me.

I had EO for years. For the past three years, they have locked me into a 12 month contract with Our Energy. Do they have access to better rates than I'd see on powertochoose? It seems like I'd be able to do that work myself, once a year, and save the monthly EO fee.

Texas Power Agents is far better than Energy Ogre. Cheaper and owned by an Aggie.

I have no doubt Texas Power Agents is a good company, but it is always same few guys on here backing it. Energy Ogre also has a big Aggie following with Cullen Gillaspia being a sponsor and other Aggie employees. EO is very involved with the non profit sector and is interested in helping with the economically disadvantaged. If you look at the awards EO has gotten from national and local economic groups, it is hard to say that TPA is better.

How are EO and TPA different? Don't they each do the same thing?

And yes there's a $10/month fee for EO but from what I see TPA is $100/year

Maybe it was not you, but there are a few others that seem to always prop up TPA. I don't work for EO, but here are some of the awards they have won. Very impressive list.

Business Culture: Truly Helping People (win/win)
Outstanding Customer Satisfaction Client Retention Rate of 90%
Fox 4 Dallas Consumer Product of the Year
Inc 5000 2019 Fastest Growing Companies in the US (Ranking 240)
Houston Business Journal
2019 Top 100 Fastest Growing Companies in Houston (13)
Houston Business Journal 2018 Best Places to Work

No company is perfect and no company is for everyone, but taking shots at EO is kind of silly.

Well, for one thing, you can try out EO for $10 and see if you like it. If you don't like the plans they find you, they will refund your $$. With TPA, it looks like you have to pay the whole year up front and not sure about any refund option. Not sure about this, but a lot of companies like TPA work with energy companies and basically are able to offer rates in bulk to their customers. Kind of block buying. EO is going to match your usage with over 100 energy companies and I think over a thousand plans.

You can look at all the awards EO has won above. As I said, no company is perfect. I am sure TPA helps people. I can just tell you that you rarely find a dissatisfied EO customer.

It doesn't seem like anyone is bashing EO. I was just asking if the bolded above is true. I haven't looked at energy plans in years, so I genuinely don't know if EO is getting better rates for me than I would find on my own.

I had heard something similar to what third coast said about how they are often running the numbers to determine if it's economical to get out of a current plan and into a new one, but I too have never seen that happen. From my view point, they take my $10 every month and the only time I hear from them is once a year when they send me another 12 month policy to review.

Yes, EO has access to rates the general public does not.

I could care less about the awards or the Gilly being a sponsor.

What I care about is the product and the price. I was with Energy Ogre for YEARS. As with many others they seemed to get lazy. Someone on here mentioned Texas Power Agents and then someone I know personally used them.

So I called them up, the owner and I talked for about 30 minutes( he was a TexAgs poster in the early days)

Since signing up, they have been far more active than EO had gotten, and they are cheaper per month. The last two plans were plans not available to the public.
redag06

I pay per month with Texas Power Agents, now that I like them I plan to call them and switch it to per year to save a few more dollars. So this alone is a savings of $21 over Energy Ogre.

When you sign up for TPA there is an option for monthly or yearly.

I have had Constellation for years, they took over Star I believe. I have no complaints. Very competitive rates and good customer service. I can PM you a referral code if you like.

Thank you for the details! I just signed up with them this morning as I am getting a $75 gift card for switching and they are paying my cancellation fee from the other energy company I am leaving.

They have a 90% retention rate after one year, which is really high! Yes, there are a few guys like you who for whatever reason like to badmouth Energy Ogre, but the board is not littered with people who have left. Matter of fact, TexAgs is very supportive.
