How long do you want to ignore this user?
Has anyone hired an "at home" swim instructor that they'd recommend? The lessons would be for 2 kids (19 & 10 months old).

If you're near 1488 & 2978 I could probably recommend. We've been doing it this summer.

Seems young, at that age get the use to and not scared of the water. Get them putting their head under, holding breath blowing bubbles etc.
At 3 to 4 I would recommend private as at that age they can learn to actually swim.

19-10 months it's a waste unless you just want them to learn how to float on their back if they fall in. At that age they aren't swimming at all.

I agree

Anything under 3 is a waste of time unless you are teaching to float. It's all fun and games for the real young ones and they get so distracted. My oldest learned how to swim at 4 and my youngest just learned at 3 1/2. Also needs to be a private instructor to start off, a stranger so the kids don't act silly

We did the swim float swim with all our kids at around 16 to 18 months old. They could all jump into the deep end of the pool and swim float swim to the edge by the time they were 20 months old.

With the ISR training they do 10 to 15 minutes a day with the instructor for about 4 weeks or so. After they finished with the instructor I always made sure to practice with them several times a week.

I havent done it for a year or two. However, I second what the person said about blowing bubbles and getting them comfortable on their backs at that age. At that age, I'm still doing parent-tot lessons usually (which, tbh are my least favorite) where I'm teaching the parent best ways to hold their baby in the water and stuff. Teach water safety.. train kiddos to jump in pool and head straight for wall, monkey crawling across the wall, etc.

my usual advice is to wait for swim lessons, esp private lessons until they are potty trained and speaking full(ish) sentences.

and for Pete's sake, train yourself to not extend both arms straight in front of you for your kid to jump into. one arm to the side is plenty. arms straight out in front of you is inviting your child to break your neck. if you hold you arm out to the side, and move away if they head to your body, I promise they will live if they hit the water before your arms. if they hit your neck, you both are in trouble.
