First report of what was discussed:

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/28995399/sources-trump-says-nfl-start

Quote:

Trump also said he hopes to have fans back in stadiums and arenas by August and September, sources said, though it is currently unclear if medical experts find that to be a realistic timeline amid the current coronavirus pandemic.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver told those on the call that the leagues were the first to shut down and that they would love to lead the way in starting the economy once there was an "all clear" from public health officials, sources familiar with the call told ESPN.

What our expectations are just keep getting pushed further and further back. From 2 weeks to "flatten the curve" to hopefully August or September (but that may not realistic according to the report). Give me my mask. Give me the South Korea and Japan model where they didn't destroy their society but instead had individual responsibility to social distance (not shelter in place) and wear a mask. Those items alone should "flatten the curve".

I'm freaking tired of the dishonesty that kicked this entire thing off because it would not have ever been agreed to. We were manipulated.

And screw the selfish Adam Silver wanting to "lead the way" in starting the economy. They should be last. They are not important. Our paid entertainers don't lead the economy. They suck off the tit of the rest of us working and being successful and having money for entertainment.

"Bread and circuses" is not something anyone should accept.

If you want SK style, you need testing done at astronomical numbers. Anyone popping positive gets stuck in their house and cannot leave. Deliveries to them and work is fine with that.

You literally need to test everyone and force them to stay home. But someone will complain that their freedoms are being taken away if they test positive.

So you end up with what you have now.

Please STFU. Just give me sports back. Screw my liberties, screw the economy. I just want the Astros and college football.

Give us the testing.

And hell yes. It is an easy choice. All of us stay at home and create an economic catastrophe like most living can't imagine or force those positive into a quarantine in their home. Basically 90% of us are doing that now without infection. Again that is an easy choice made 100% with common sense.

I know you may say it, but there are those out there who will get sick and say "it's my God given right to go out. Away from me! " unless you put a cop on their door 24/7.

And we're releasing suspects in jail. So if they went out, against a judge's order, you're going to arrest them just to let them out again? Or house then in a hospital when they aren't super sick. Or go full China and either kill them or weld their door shut?

SK is or has tested 5200 per million people. The US is at 17 per million. Why isn't the president calling them and getting their plan on testing? Yes they are smaller in terms of people and size, but this is the USA. We're supposed to be #1, right? Freedoms and all that. Super intelligence, super attitude, gung ho, etc.

****, we can't even get a coherent list of essential vs. non- essential businesses.

Politicians are doing what they know best since about the 80's: kick the can down the road. Because they don't want tti be the one known for killing 100k+ people AND getting a depression.

Agreed. It seems like much of what I hear is refuted by another source. So much misinformation and disinformation out there. I was under the belief that our testing was catching up. I use this site:
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

and it shows 1.66M total tests in the US now. So that is 5,006 tests per million. It shows South Korea at 8,996 tests per million (still ahead by a good amount) but Japan way down at just 339 tests per million.

How in the world has Japan done so amazingly well while being in Asia and only having 77 total deaths?

This is the issue I see with testing numbers in Houston and Texas.

If 10% require hospitalization, you have 10 times the cases. If you have 2% hospitalization, you have 50 times the cases.

And with the Asian countries, I look at how fast they ramped up testing as well. SK and the US had 100 cases at the same time. One country made testing a priority and will bounce back quicker. One did not and will not bounce back quickly, IMHO.

Asian countries like Japan and Taiwan also have mask cultures and that clearly helps prevent the spread of COVID-19. And that behavior when combined with a collective mindset is empirically effective against things like this. People here think about masks as a means to prevent themselves from getting sick but in East Asia, people wear masks to prevent other people from getting sick. And when everyone wears masks, sick or not, it cuts down on transmission significantly especially with data showing that asymptomatic shedding of the virus is quite prevalent.
