Do you prefer shops that have adult magazines laying around?

I have gone to Capone's barber shop in Memorial City off Gessner & I-10 for the past ~7 years. They recently closed as the owner retired. The #2 barber (Chris) is at Spring Valley Barbershop off Campbell & I-10 for now. I'll be checking it out tomorrow and will report back but from the website it looks like a similar setup. Guys getting haircuts and sitting around BS'ing.

It's filthy and consistency started be an issue. Also Eric is a bit of a whack job and his BS got to be a bit much.

I go there because Eric cuts hair ok and its fairly cheap. It is dirty - although sometimes he has a guy cleaning. It can be quite entertaining at times as Eric and his cousin ramble on and watch MMA or you tube videos. I'm pretty sure Eric has a bad case of ADD - he's all over the map. He thinks he's an expert on every subject so if you know that going in, its not too bad. He also has beer and whiskey if you feel like a drink.

Used to work in Clear Lake and would go Lu's Barbershop. off Bay Area and Space City. Old school, clean, free beer on tap. $25 for a high zero fade.

Also been to Argyle and Hygienix ITL. $40, harder to get in to, but includes whiskey.

I go to Eric because he knows how to fade in the sides. With that said, I do wish he would cut more and talk less. He could get 3 cuts in an hour (instead of 2) just by changing that. I've thought about changing too.

It's not that he talks. I get barbershop banter but they ramble on MMA matches, how messed up on drugs they used get on the weekends, their buddy who has a preference for trannies, Eric's low T problem, they're preference on vape machines. It got to be too much. I found myself relieved when he got done and couldn't wait to get out of there

It's more like a high school lockeroom than a men's barbershop.

I looked it up and thought no way I am paying $48 for a haircut, but I don't have many left to cut so the buzz cut for $15 may be worth a try.

If this is the case, Chris won't be there for long. I always got my haircut by Mark or Chris (sometimes Paul when he was still there) and the banter with them was fun as hell. Their chairs were next to each other, so you could carry on a pretty good conversation.

I went to Chophouse a few times in MedCenter at Kirby/Holcombe. Now I live in the Heights near Doug's. Went a couple weeks ago and ended up with Don. Nice old guy, but it was like getting a haircut from someone with Parkinson's and I ended up having to go around the side of my head with my beard trimmers when I got home. I know his schedule now, so I won't be going back on days he is working.

Just finished getting my cut from Chris. Great haircut. Banter wasn't too wild today but Eric did take plenty of liberties jumping in on our conversation.
His cousin wasn't cutting while I was there so it seemed like he could have grabbed a broom but who knows.
Smelled very strongly of a sewage/plumbing issue.
I can put up with it for 30 minutes every 4-6 weeks but def hoping Chris finds a chair in a different spot.

That's my strategy. I've been going there for many, many years. Been avoiding him, more due to his preaching the Good Book while I'm in his chair. Everybody else is cool though

Used to use Eric about the time Kirby had his meltdown. Then I couldn't deal with how filthy he was. I started using Chris about the time Mark took over Kirby's. Eric is a freaking nutcase. Then I moved to the burbs.

Is this Eric formerly of fountain view? If so went to him once for a shave from a recommendation from here a while back. Strange guy, and can see why he can't stay at one shop.

Was not expecting to see another vote for East end barber on here. That's where I go and would recommend it though they are pretty booked up.

Harvey at Memorial Barbershop (Woodway/Augusta). He still uses a straight razor.
