I want to take my younger kids to see the rodeo events, but don't think they'll stay up late enough to watch the concert. If I buy cheap nosebleed tickets, can we sit closer for the roping and riding, and then clear out before folks take their seats for the concert?

Seemed like the ushers got more dick-headed about it for the bigger draws. If you're skipping the concert and just pick a random smaller name concert, you might be ok moving around lower levels.

Pick one of the nights that is a big draw, but not for rode fans, if you can do it. The teeny boppers aren't going to come for the rodeo, it'll be a ghost town during the events, but it will fill quickly.

Or go for one of the weekend shows that start in the afternoon rather than night.

Or better yet, what I do with my little kids, is to early in the morning on the weekends, and they get to see some of the stuff in the different arenas and barns, there's no one around and people are just killing time and it's a kind of cool behind the scenes type atmosphere for the kids. It's not roping events specifically, but it's animals and an up close look at them all that isn't as available when the big crowds and organized events start cranking during the day.

Yeah, definitely check the schedule for other events. Any kid would probably enjoy the horse events at NRG Arena and, of course, Mutton Bustin'.

There are plenty of other options if you want to show kids actual events, horsemanship, etc. Friday night there's a barrel race jackpot in Magnolia, team roping in Navasota and in March the A&M rodeo team is having their home event at the Expo Center in Bryan. Not NRG but for some in the suburbs the drive isn't much different and the heachache is a lot less.

They have roping, barrel riding and ranch rodeos in the Arena which is covered in the cost of grounds admission. You can sit a lot closer and stay as long as you like. I much prefer going to that with kids, the Ranch Rodeo is a cool format.

The ranch rodeo is a lot of fun, but the best is the horseback shooting competition.

If you want to be assured of sitting close to the action, consider the Humble Rodeo this weekend (Fri and Sat night). Not a bad seat in the house. Just "a wee bit" smaller than NRG.

I am not the Six Million Dollar Man, but I might need that surgery. "We have the technology, we can rebuild him!"

Went for the first time this year and had a great time other than it being as cold as an ex-girlfriend's heart.

Check out the horse show schedule, and go to some of those events. Ranch sorting and ranch rodeo are both great to watch. Roping, mounted shooting, barrel racing. And it's usually going on during the day and early evenin.

And everything in the horse arena is close-up.

although the daily schedule only lists horse show events as "8 a.m.", most of them keep going all day and usually late into the evening. Look for me and Ferris Wheel Allstar wandering around or at Stockmen's!

Does anyone know if parking passes have to be hard copy or if they can be transferred electronically like tickets?

You should bring your kids to the Ranch Rodeo. It is Friday (3/8) and Saturday (3/9). We invite 24 teams from across the nation to compete in events. First eight teams compete at 11 am on Friday. Next eight at 7 pm then next eight on Saturday at 11 am. Top ten make finals on Saturday night at 8 pm. It is held in NRG arena and you can get close to action. Plus you get to guys that do it as a job have fun competing. There is bronc riding, sorting, pasture doctoring and pasture milking. Free to attend after you get inside the grounds.
