I see GF is having another promotion this weekend based on the AFC championship game. Spend a minimum of $5000 and if NE beats KC you can get 1/2 refunded back or get 100% store credit.

Ever notice the fine print disclaimer on their TV spots for these type promotions? "No purchase necessary, see GalleryFurniture.com for details". Yet, I can find nothing online explaining the no purchase necessary part. There has to be a way to enter without purchasing otherwise I think they can get in trouble with gambling laws...but of course they don't easily disclose how. I guess you have to go to a store and beat up a manager to give the details.

Mattress Mack wants you in the store. He's not going to disclose the details online. If you see the details online, it might stop you from going to the store. If you have to go to the store for the details, even if you don't like the details, you're still 99% going to look around on the floor and there's still an opportunity for a sale.

pretty sure "no purchase necessary" refers to buying a ticket or something to be eligible for the prize.

Everyone that purchased nothing can still get 50% back.

People think a guy who finances folks at over 20% is some kind of folk hero. Been to I-45N *once*. Kiss my ass, Mack, especially your ultra-high pressure business plan. All the rest is self-serving bs to finance crap furniture. Is he fooling you? Yeah, "hero". Look closer. Especially toward DFW.

Not saying I support him. Just know why he likely doesn't give details online.

Man, if you think his sales folks are ultra high pressure then your skin is thinner than your hair. I've been in there several times and always had a good shopping experience. Never paid his high prices, but I looked around and drank a free diet coke or two.

Never felt pressured to buy anything there, just never saw anything I liked.

Mack is in business to make money not go bankrupt. If you don't like his prices, go else where. He cannot help it if someone cannot understand how simple interest works and someone does not understand the value of money.

Dont like the contract dont sign it. That furniture isn't worth **** when you default on your loan.

Mac does amazing things in philanthropy for the city of Houston. Look at what he did during and after hurricane Harvey, google it.

He also is the definition of the American dream, started with one piece of furniture, sold it, bought two more, sold those, etc.

I buy as much furniture as possible there. I have 2 sofas I've purchased there, they've both lasted a decade+. The 2 ashley type pieces I've bought didnt even make it a couple years. And I never feel pressured there, they always give you space if you want it, they're just always near which IMO is good. If you don't want them near you- tell them you have no intentions on purchasing anything and that you're a window shopper.

What another completely dumbass take of the thousands that you've put (in mostly very poor grammar) on this website. First of all, if you're in your 50s and still having to finance furniture, I feel sorry for you. 2nd, Mattress Mack is one of the top people in Houston to give back to the community in many different ways, especially during Harvey. 3rd, he's pretty widely recognized as being a great genuine man by pretty much everyone who knows him well or has met him. What an absolutely moronic post, but honestly not real surprising coming from your keyboard.

So for the uninitiated, is this how Gallery Furniture really makes it's money? Sell furniture for $X, finance it, immediately flip the financed furniture to a 3rd party at a discount, and still be in the black?

I would assume he makes most of his money by selling furniture at a profit.

But people are stupid and want to live outside their means so they finance things they shouldn't be financing, like furniture. He's not going to tell these people no, and lose that business to every other furniture store, so he's going to do it. He's also not going to lose money on financing, so I'm sure he does it at a profit, not sure if he flips it, or what. But the interest rate will and should be high. Just think of what is being financed. It's freaking furniture. If John Doe quits paying and the company has to go repossess the furniture they aren't going to get **** for it.

I wouldn't be surprised if gallery furniture offers similar sales on similar quality or lines of furniture.

Rooms to go furniture is utter crap that costs nothing to make so they can easily afford to offer 0% financing.

GF offers interest free financing on every pc of furniture they sell for 15 mos thru Wells Fargo according to their website. Looks like it's a store card. So they operate like any retail store ever in the USA. You'll find the exact same thing at Home Depot or Best Buy... or any other major goods store.

Yeah, so what you're saying is that, similar to every other topic jrt posts on, he is completely clueless.

but how would they compete with the stores like Ashley and rooms to go that continuously offer 0% financing.

If they're financing via a third party, they basically get cash in the door that is only part of the total purchase price but still is enough to keep margins where they need to be. Third party financier has actuarial tables that tell them what interest rate to charge which buyers (or 0% for "well qualified") so that over the life of the loan, they are always in the money.

Cash buyers at these type of furniture stores, I suspect, are just gravy since they don't have to give a piece of the margin to the financier.

Just read where Mack is closing his Post Oak store due to slow business. I guess those living in that area are knowledgeable about the math of finance.

I would imagine part of is it's a pain to get to that location and doesn't seem that they'll ever have the exit reopened.

Is he even really losing much money on this? His invoice cost of furniture is probably half of the sell price isn't it?

Hence the option of half cash back or 100% store credit.

I don't understand the no purchase necessary thing for this instance. The prize is getting some of your purchase being refunded. No purchase, no refund.

Different than say the McD monopoly game where you can just send a sase to get a piece by mail.

I'm a fan of the guy and just had a truckload of furniture delivered last week. Customer service has been excellent throughout the process. Hope Mac's bad cough improves.
