Does anyone have a good recommendation for a tree service guy in Houston? (Spring Branch area)

I have a old tree that has parts large branches (4-5" dia) falling occasionally.
Wondering if I need to just have the tree pruned or take it down.

Thanks and Gig 'em

What kind of tree? Some trees, especially Pecan, are self pruning and will drop limbs that do not receive sufficient sunlight for growth.

If it is a trash tree..ie ash, maple, get rid of it.

Oaks should be pruned before spring growth occurs.

Post on the OB and you will get much more educated responses than mine.
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.

That thing is REALLY close to your house. Who thought it was a good idea to plant it there? I'd take it down.

It's actually a duplex rental my family has owned for 30+ years. Built in '68.

The roots from it are causing the small brick wall in the entryway to start to lean over and almost fall.

Thinking it's got to go now.

That tree never should have been there. Take it out.

I used a referral from TexAgs last year to take down a tree that was just as close to my place, albeit the tree was much smaller than yours. VERY affordable, and provided proof of insurance just in case anything goes wrong. They cut up and saved most of it for my fireplace, and mulched the rest. Also ground down the stump, all for a few hundred bucks. Couldn't believe it when my other quotes were $1000+.

Tree looks I opine that it just needs a good pruning. I would call Martin Spoonmore at Affordable Tree Service. He will come out and know exactly what it needs. He gives you a solution you can bank on being right. Trees enhance the value of the property.

Unless of course it's growing into your foundation, pipes, and walls.

Exactly. The only value that tree has is to a foundation repair company.

Ernesto has done several trees for me in spring branch and I've been happy, not the cheapest though.

I forget the name of his company, but his number is two 8 1, five seven o, 5 six 5 7

If it's Ash or Maple I'd love to get some pieces to put on a lathe.

Martin's tree service just did an awesome job trimming my tree for dirt cheap. Cut a huge oak down for me few years back also for dirt cheap and managed to keep it off my roof.

That's a Water 0ak.
Tear out that lil brick wall, prune, and enjoy.
What's done is done, and that's a great tree.

+1

That tree is worth more than the brick wall.

it looks to be a couple feet from the slab. It's going to do damage to more than the brick wall.

Water Oak. I lost about 8 of those in Harvey. They just fell over in slow motion from the saturated ground. Strangely, they all fell away from the house. I never liked the idea of giant branches hanging over my roof.

HvilleAggie, thanks for recommending Guerrero Tree Service. I had several companies come out and give me quotes, most well over $1000 to take it down, ground stump and haul away.

Guerrero came out and inspected and then quoted me $1000. I asked if they could do it for $800 and he said deal. Well a week passed then he told me he would have to delay a bit because he got into an accident. Then I got busy with "life" and put this off.

Well here I am ready to pick this back up but it seems Guerrero has gone out of business.

Can anyone else recommend a decent, insured company?
