Breaking news: Not a single HISD school makes the list for "the Houston area."

Quote:

The rankings are based on 5 weighted factors - academics, teachers, district, culture and diversity - as well as parent-student surveys.

Can someone help me with what culture and diversity have to do with determining the "best" elementary schools?

And the first description item in the teacher factor is teacher's salary.

Too many propaganda items pollute these things.

Explains so much.

These lists by TheNiche are typically pretty suspect. They're good at getting the press to pimp them out though.

Funny, not 2 hours ago, a real live human was mentioning how bad Niche's private school rankings are.

Are there no schools from Spring Branch in the top twenty?

Well, since so many appear to be in Katy, I think we can safely say culture and diversity have an inverse effect on the rankings.

I was wondering the same thing. I think that their results may be heavily skewed by the student teacher ratio

The Aggie number specified has already been linked with another TexAgs account.

So just about all of the best schools in the entire area are in Katy? Sounds legit.

Have you seen these Katy schools? 20 kids in my daughters class and only 4 are white. I'd argue they are more diverse than our school in Houston would have been. Difference is that there are tons of kids from all over in her class, most whose parents have university educations. Her school is in the top 5.

I'll also add that I ride a vanpool most days to the office. I am the only American born and white person on my van. 4 Indians, 3 Africans, 3 Middle Easterners, and 6 South Americans (we usually only have 10-12 people riding per day). Most are engineers and a few are IT personnel, with the others having technical backgrounds as well (a geologist or two, etc.). All are excellent, extremely friendly and personable people. These are the types of people whose kids are in my daughters class. Heck, I thought it was pretty funny that on "meet the teacher night" (which was a few days before school started) an Asian Mom in my daughters kindergarten class was asking how to get her son into GT.

Katy is a great school district...just stay to the south

Horrible analysis, they didn't even go south of I-10 essentially, they squatted in the NW quadrant and never moved.

There are several good elementary schools in Houston if you can afford the 7-figure buy in.

These rankings are all about price per square foot.

That's true for the most part, but not entirely.

Pattison is mainly Nottingham Country, which is one of the cheaper neighborhoods in Katy.

I would agree with the poor assessment. Spring branch has some great elementary schools with Frostwood and Bunker Hill being two of them. The financial support given to the schools by the PTA is incredible. I can't imagine 30 schools in Katy being ranked above both these schools.

Nottingham Country is more middle class. Memorial Parkway on the other side of Westgreen is probably the lowest on the south side. Pattison is surrounded by some Kelliwood neighborhoods and Parklake Village. I agree it isn't as nice as it used to be with some apartments being built and routed there.
