Can someone help me with what culture and diversity have to do with determining the "best" elementary schools?
Well, since so many appear to be in Katy, I think we can safely say culture and diversity have an inverse effect on the rankings.
Have you seen these Katy schools? 20 kids in my daughters class and only 4 are white. I'd argue they are more diverse than our school in Houston would have been. Difference is that there are tons of kids from all over in her class, most whose parents have university educations. Her school is in the top 5.
I'll also add that I ride a vanpool most days to the office. I am the only American born and white person on my van. 4 Indians, 3 Africans, 3 Middle Easterners, and 6 South Americans (we usually only have 10-12 people riding per day). Most are engineers and a few are IT personnel, with the others having technical backgrounds as well (a geologist or two, etc.). All are excellent, extremely friendly and personable people. These are the types of people whose kids are in my daughters class. Heck, I thought it was pretty funny that on "meet the teacher night" (which was a few days before school started) an Asian Mom in my daughters kindergarten class was asking how to get her son into GT.
