Yep. Add Hugo's and DeMarco. And Dolce Vita (although kinda loud and not really romantic)

could go old school and hit up Nino's & Vincent's Is it still any good? Used to be solid if unspectacular.

The only pure Puerto Rican restaurant in Houston is in the montrose area, Texchick. I love going there, worth a visit if you're in the mood for something different than your typical Tex Mex place.

Niko Niko's is not where you take your wife for her birthday.

Love Greek food.

Try Helen if willing to go another area to impress the lady and still do Greek.

FWIW - Aladdin>Niko Niko's

His mom is.

Seriously, though, Burger Joint makes a good burger and has a solid beer selection.

Edit: not really a place for wife's birthday dinner.

Ritual and BcK are in the Heights but are really good.

Da Vino is a great neighborhood Italian place on W Alabama.

Ritual is becoming one of our new go to restaurants. Always solid. Great for brunch too.

Can I wear a hat inside Uchi? Haven't been in a long time and I'm thinking of stopping there for HH before the rodeo.

Don't be a savage and take your hat off inside the restaurant.

Ugh. All facts, but a ninja is facing an unexpected time crunch, yanno? No time to get a clean fit off as I normally would.

hats are no problem at all at Uchi. Same with shorts. flip flops, etc. There's no dress code there. It's casual.

How flat is the bill? Is it your formal ballcap paired with the proper frames, or more of an everyday IT support hat?

Flat bills are for thugs. It's formal enough. Just a red cap with an H on it? What do you mean by frames? Like glasses? If so, I'm wearing the ultimate hipster glasses. The frames are clear.

Serious non-fashion question on the thread: how is that wife beater chef's restaurant? I think it's on Westheimer just east of Montrose. Aqui maybe?

Just Dinner on Dunlavy.
Small intimate restaurant in an old house. Maybe 15 tables in the place. Bring your own booze. Never had anything bad here. Had the duck a couple weeks ago and it was fantastic over butternut squash risotto. Can't say enough good things about this pace.

I live 2 blocks from there, it is great and I love the byob aspect. Always changing menu, and everything is prepared first rate. Not overly fancy, just really good and a nice dinner spot. Check it out if you haven't been.

And Aqui is good, quite good but also up its own ass a bit and very expensive. Only been once and would try it again, but it's gonna be tough with so many options around now. Food is very good though, seriously.

Another place I highly recommend is Bistecca down on Westheimer. It is *excellent* and does not get the press it deserves IMO. Excellent food and service.
