Not saying it happened, but an event like this would be a great time abduct somebody. It would be days or weeks before anyone came to that conclusion, and the flood waters would destroy a lot of evidence.

The article says they've checked ONE elevator.

The Omni has more than one elevator.... have they not checked all of them?

I've thought about how if you ever wanted to disappear a disaster like this would be a good idea. If you trust your spouse, they can collect the insurance and meet you in Colombia.

Yep. But she hasn't been found yet so...
My money is on her being in the elevator shaft and they haven't been able to pump out the water enough to check.

Just like Allison. Downtown elevator.
If you know the area, it's possible she misstepped and was swept into a storm drain, then Buffalo.
FAST current in that area, which should have had about 1/8 the development it did.
It's dangerous around there in flood. Very dangerous.

ABC13 has confirmed now that her body has been found in the hotel.

No other details given.

KHOU story says she called someone and said she was trapped in the elevator and water was rushing in. Terrifying. Poor lady.

Like others have said, that happened in Allison. In that storm the people in the building were rushing down to get their cars before they flooded. Security was able to tell some folks to take the stairs from the lobby, but not all people were able to get the message.

You'd think that after Allison, an ordinance would be passed that required some type of water detection in the elevator shaft that if it is triggered would not allow the elevator to drop below a certain floor.

I simple feedback loop to control that would be easy.

that is horrific. There really should be some sort of water sensor.

That's just about the worst way I can imagine going (among realistic possibilities).

If they know this place floods why on earth wouldn't the basement area be off limits. Smh

The Omni deserves to be sued over this. First for building a basement in Houston...but mostly for not securing their elevators under the circumstances.

How many times has the Black Swan flooded, 10 or more in the last 20 years?

There are more basements in Houston than just Omni
