My wife was looking for a new gym since she quit Lifetime and we started talking about it this morning. It's near our house and seems to have the amenities that she's looking for and I could start playing tennis again. Fees for a couple are less than $200 a month and initiation is only $400. Any other Ags members there?

Want a better discount then be a big brother. I think we can get it for like $150 a month.

Tell them you want to join but they need to waive the initiation.

We have been members for about two months. We are using it as a stop-gap until we likely join Lakeside in a few years. It's great for our family because of the multitude of things to do between the Sports Zone, Kids Zone, pool, etc. You can spend a hot or rainy day indoors and not run out of things to do. The gym/workout areas are great as well. I've gone up there on numerous occasions and spent hours on the property with the kids. They also have a free nursery so mom and dad can do their own thing.

But it's a tired club that needs some major updating. It's in a bad part of town. The restaurant is average and the service is inconsistent, especially by the pool. Our view is that it's cheap and we therefore don't expect Lakeside quality staffing and treatment.

If you want it for tennis, gym, it's probably worth it. Lots of events, classes, etc where you can meet other people. They have a ton of members but it never feels crowded. In that area of town it's about the only option if you don't want golf, unless you want to go east and spend $20k to get into the Houston Racquet Club.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

I'm sure we can both benefit from some sort of referral program if you do decide to join.

is that really a bad part of town now? It wasn't river oaks when I used to hang out in that area, but certainly not a barrio.

Maybe bad part of town is the wrong wording, but there are eye-sores all around. Run down apartments and strip centers, etc. I guess technically it looks like the rest of Houston.

right, it can't be all that bad...it's close to Lakeside and that's suppose to be really nice right?

anyways, i'm curious to know what rates people are getting there...my wife and i (and 1.5 yo daughter) would be interested in joining possibly. it's between Westside and Lifetime.

That strip of Wilcrest from Westheimer up to the Bayou definitely isn't a shining beacon of development awesomeness. A lot of those apartments are full of New Orleans' finest.

But that also happens to be where we live, so it's convenient.

Thanks for the input.

My wife quit Lifetime just because parking is such a pain at City Center. She found herself skipping the gym more and more because she didn't want to deal with the hassle of finding parking.

I am a member. Seem to drink there more than I workout. Nice place. Free breakfast in the morning.

This sort of sums up Westside. They are resorting to gimmicks like this to keep people coming back. Not sure if its sustainable.

We pay $225/month for a family plus food, drinks. Haven't hit $300/month yet.
