The wife and I are looking to join a gym here in Houston. We live in the Heights and do not want to travel too far otherwise we know we won't go as often. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good gym that has good workout equipment and classes for her?

not sure where you work but I love the downtown YMCA.

It's their trophy so they keep it very clean and the machines are always working. They have a ton of classes as well.

They have a parking garage that is free for 2 hours and an agreement with the 3 surface lots around the building for parking after 5.

Wife worked out at the downtown Y and loved it. While it's already been noted as state-of-the-art, they also have child care!

YMCA; totally agree with Diggity!

I joined two weeks ago; so far I am impressed. Machines are new and work, and have a good amount of equipment. The staff does a good job at keeping it clean. Its like a miniature TAMU Rec. So far no grunting gorilla meat heads!

Good point. I think it only added $5 month to put our son on the plan so it's well worth it for the daycare.

They also do monthly "parent's night out" sorts of things. I haven't tried that yet though.

Do they have lockers that you can keep things in overnight?

Work downtown and want a place I can leave towel/soap/shampoo/ razor and only bring in work clothes each morning to change.

If you want something a little different you should check our Urban Jungle on Yale at 7th. It's a martial arts gym (BJJ/Muay Thai/MMA) but also teaches cardio kickboxing.
I've been going there for over 6 years and really enjoy it.

They offer free intro classes if you want to check it out.

yep, great place. I enjoy it. Just got lots of new treadmills and equipment. They also do crossfit if that's your thing. Membership has increased quite a bit since I started working out there. Seems like it is busiest between 5 and 7PM most days. Can't speak for the morning crowd.

I use Anytime Fitness on Yale. The equipment is fine but a little small. I think they have very few classes, but like you, it was all about location for me.

The owner's wife has a nice azz. You should ask him about it.

I'm sure his wife could take care of herself.

What's the monthly rate at the downtown Y?

I'm probably about to pull the trigger on a family membership to the Y. $88/month for the wife and myself, can work out at any Y in town. I can hit up downtown before/after work and the wife can go to the Trotter Family one out near Tanglewood.

They have women only workout groups/areas if your wife has a problem with dudes staring at her T&A the whole time.

So true. When I went for a tour and asked what the monthly cost were my jaw dropped. I then asked if that included a chic who dried you off after getting out of the shower. No response...
