What's the story on this school? I've heard nothing but bad things but that's from Iranian people.

In 1998 my dad was going to buy a tear-down in Tanglewood for around $200K to build our house on. The only problem was my sister in 10th grade at the time would then have to attend Lee High School. Being Iranian, no way you could send your daughter to that school. Instead he buys a nice 6,000 SQF house in Katy for $525,000 and me, my sister, brother all got a good Katy education. Last year after almost 14 years he sold the house for $600,000.

If he would have bought and built in Tanglewood, that damn house would be over $1M instead we moved to the suburbs and got good education but no house appreciation. Pisses me off! So do all these people living there send their kids to private school?

My parents did a similar thing in the early 80's.

They were looking hard at a house in Wilchester but they didn't think they would have enough space for the six of us. The realtor suggested there was a "nice new neighborhood out in Katy" where you could get more home for your money and great schools.

We ended up in Nottingham Country and 15 years later they sold their house for about what they paid for it.

To answer your question, Briargrove elementary has a great GT program and Grady is OK but yes, most parents send their kids to private school over there.

Lee is an exclusively ESL school now as far as I know. I'm pretty sure everyone zoned to Lee has the Westside option.

I didn't realize being Iranian played such a strong role in determining which scummy public school is acceptable/unacceptable.

Image is everything with us Iranians. A husband can't have his wife driving a Honda. All Iranians brag they live in Memorial but they won't tell you if it's 77024 or 77079 if they are on the 77079 side.

I have seen a lot of Lee zoned areas with the option of also attending either Lamar or Westside. Either one is a no brainer over Lee. If that tells you anything on the story.

Ran into that mofo randomly at Blanco's a few fridays ago. Was real cool but wouldn't shake hands and instead of fist bumping with a coworker, he just said "wireless" and stopped about 3 in from coworker's hand. Those paws are worth some dough I guess. Yep, that's why I didn't even try to get in his personal space or make contact. You are right, dude is very skinny.

The white kids that remained in the 90's formed a gang called the "Naughty Dogs" and they used to roll around and jump the underclassmen from Stratford HS (and probably Strake...although Strake had ITK to defend their honor) wherever they found them. Always hated that school.

LHS c/o 2000 represent! About 6 or 7 of us went on to become Ags.

I imagine the top 10% rule was pretty money at Lee .

I also got in via SAT score, but yeah, you were pretty much guaranteed Top 10% if English was your first language. Pretty gutsy school, even for HISD standards.

Not gonna lie, I dorked out and got his autograph at the Continental Club one night. He was totally prepared w/ a little notepad w/ his picture on it to sign. Fortunately, a couple of bros started crowding him and topped my dorkiness. But he was really nice about it. Pretty cool that he can feel comfortable just dropping into a bar w/o an entourage or anything.

And St. Thomas. It was like they wanted to remind everyone that there were still white guys at Lee, and if you forgot about them they would fight you. High School version of a white prison gang. Their gay-ass tshirts were kind of a trophy for a while.

Had several friends in college that graduated from Lee around late 80s to 91.

They are known as "Los Perros Traviesos" nowadays.

I know several years ago they disbanded their football program because of lack of interest.

they've brought back the football team as of two years ago. My son's private school freshman team played their varsity this year (not kidding). My son said one of the Lee players had a tear drop tattoo down his face and most of the others were sporting beards.

Soccer is still their big sport.

Little known HISD rule - you can basically attend any HISD school no matter what school yo are zoned to. You just have to apply and if they have room they'll take you. You ever wonder why Lamar has 3800 students and all the predominately black HISD schools are sitting at less than 2000? All the kids transfer into Lamar.

One of these things is not like the other...

They basically built my high school back in 2000 (Westside HS) so there would be another option for West Houston kids other than Lee. It was a place no one (families, kids themselves) wanted to have to go to. Plus there'd be a decent commute.

Fun Fact...one of the founders of FPSF went to LEE and was a member of Naughty Dogs. If you zoom in to the Summer Fest graphic to the left of the stage you will see a guy wearing a naughty dogs shirt.

My wife graduated from Lee in the mid 70's. They no longer have a football team. Needless to say, it is nothing like it used to be. If I lived in hisd I'd home school or send them to private school, anyway.

I went to Lee. Lot of good Ags went there back in the day. But if you got bank , just go private.

Just a glance at the neighborhood these days is all you need.

Dated a Urologist's daughter from Lee in the early '80s. It was a relatively affluent, quality public school.

So were Lamar, Westbury and Sharpstown, for that matter. Clear indicator? Whomever won District 4A generally played for the state
BASEBALL title....also very good SWIMMING teams. (hint, hint...)

...and we still have no immigration policy 30 years later.
