Looking at possilby purchasing an acerage lot and building a custom home...

Looking for pros and cons of location etc.

I'm a bit concerned about the communte times but that seems to be the downfall

I'm in the area. Bought a house in the area three years ago and have really enjoyed it. Where would you be commuting to?

My parents live out there. They both work at home, but when they built the house my dad still commuted to woodlands like twice a week and downtown once a week, but when going downtown, he left like at 9 and headed back about 4.

That's a hell of a commute if you're doing it everyday and it's downtown or galleria.
As with everything in Houston, the neighborhoods and big box stores go up before the one lane road gets widened.. so magnolia I have a feeling is going to be in for a ton of expansion construction over the next 10 years. That light going straigt at 149 already backs up all the way to that beaver creek place pretty much.

I'm work in commercial construction so there is no telling where I might be on a given job. I'm thinking along the mantra of "Live where you want to work where you have to" since I don't have a main office that I work out of everyday.

I could be 10 miles from the house for a month then 100 miles the next year. Its all up in the air.

Well yeh, then if you're outside of the normal 8-5 with commute, why not. Live where you want, if you want land, that's a great place to do it.

I've lived in Magnolia a lot. I just moved away again. My parents still live in the city limits in the same house they bought in 1983.

Getting to I-45 is easy enough from both locations. If they ever decide to complete 249, it'll help you get to the beltway a bit faster.

We pretty much have everything we want close by and can get to Tomball or The Woodlands easily. The only renfest traffic I ever hit is on 1774 going to or from CS.

I grew up in Montgomery and loved every minute of it. Perfect location between CS and Houston. The area used to be one of the fastest growing counties in the US, but that was a good while ago. Pretty much all of my family still lives in the area and probably will long after they retire.

My father has owned his own construction/land clearing business in that area for about 15 years now. Over the years he has done business all over the greater Houston area as well as places like Crockett, Lufkin, Livingston, Waller, etc. He drives around a TON, but growing up there was never a night when he couldn't make it home to see his family.

All in all, I really enjoyed spending my time there as a kid. Now would I want to go back there to work, probably not. But that's just me.

That for the responses! I a stellar deal outside of planterville but I think thats litte to far for commuting....

Any particular places to avoid?

I'm guessing you don't want to buy a trailer, so you should be able to avoid the "bad" areas without any help.

My buddy graduated in 01. Last name Hanna

I lived next door to Stewary for 3 or 4 years as a kid, and we stayed friends at A&M was good friends with Dose in HS as well ran CC together.

Dose is married now, living out of state I believe.

I also know mr. hanna.

Small world. I definitely remember her. My mom works at the Junior High as well.

I also was used to be best friends with Hanna's cousin. When he was at A&M he would hook us up with the occasional ticket to a football or basketball game. Probably what got me hooked on Aggieland in the first place.
