My husband and I are trying to add another Aggie to the world, but my body isn't cooperating. My OBGYN has suggested that it is time to try a fertility clinic. Does anyone have any recommendations for a great doctor? We are in the Webster/Clear Lake/Friendswood area, but willing to see a doctor outside that area if they are worth it. I am looking for a doctor who won't jump immediately to shots and IVF because those just aren't for us. Any help is greatly appreciated.

My wife and I are in Webster and we really like Dr. Witz. I think it is Houston Fertility Institute. Convenient location on Medical Center.

I saw one in San Antonio so I'm no help with a recommendation, but I wanted to ask if you had checked out the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility? It teaches you how to chart, and if you start charting your cycles now while waiting to see a specialist that may save you weeks or months by giving them some valuable info up front! I had two miscarriages after my first baby and I was able to give them my charts and it helped them narrow down my issues. Just wanted to mention that in case it could help! FertilityFriend.com is a website where you can track your charting that really helped me, too.

Sending you positive thoughts your wishes for another little Aggie come true very soon.

Dr. Randall Dunn. Conservative approach and not pushy. Best of luck!

Although, we didn't visit her until we were at the IVF stage, I'd highly recommend Dr Laurie McKenzie at Houston IVF. I-10 Memorial/Hermann at Memorial City.

We went to Dr. Randall Dunn as well (Sugar Land and Med Center) and we liked him as well.

if you find yourself up against IUI or IVF and have moral reservations, i'd highly recommend a consult with one of Dr. Hilgers practitioners.

he's based out of Nebraska but is training specialists to set up shop in Houston.

His logic: when IVF was invented, everyone in medicine figured, why continue to figure out why these women are having trouble, when we can do IVF. he continued on the "why" route. his methodology sort of "chases the rabbit". example: if youve got PCOS, why - hormones are out of whack. why are the hormones out of whack - the thyroid is out of whack. why's the thyroid out of whack... and so on. then he treats the conditions working back towards proper womanly function. its pretty logical, just not as "easy".

if youre interested in more info, shoot me an email (in profile). full disclosure - it hasnt worked for us yet, but we've also learned that any amount of IVF wouldnt have either...

best of luck to yall -

Thanks for the book suggestion. I don't have much to track because lack of cycles has been my biggest problem, but I will definitely look into the book.

You are very welcome! That book should cover information about lack of cycles and what that could mean, too. It's been a few years since I read it! My problem was short cycles, I ended up needing progesterone supplements.

I know several people who have gone to Houston Fertility Center. They say it is more affordable that most and that Dr. Sonja Kristiansen is very down to earth!!

I'm not sure I'd trust my wife to a doctor with downs.

Thanks so much for the recommendations, I now have it narrowed down to two docs.

Now, do you have any questions that you didn't ask during your first visit but wished you had? Or any questions are you really glad you asked early on? You can email me if you feel more comfortable: corganlive@yahoo.com

My advice...

-If you don't get a great vibe from the doc and staff right away, move on. Process is stressful enough without dealing with an inattentive doc or bad staff/nurses. We had to do this (not with any doc recommended on this thread).

-Test for everything. Sometimes multiple things are going on. We had to fix many things...best to know upfront what all your dealing with instead of fixing Problem A only to discover you now have an unrelated Problem B. Or lots of little problems that wouldn't be an issue by themselves can add up to a big problem. Get the SO checked (yay room of porn), guy problems are easily diagnosed so best to rule them out early. Fertility treatment can be crazy expensive, but diagnostics are usually covered by insurance.

If you ever hit the IVF stage, and I hope you don't need to or maybe it's not on the table, I'll have more advice.
