AT&T U-verse

Does anyone have any idea how AT&T chooses where to have U-verse available? Is it a monkey throwing darts at a map???

I used to live in Oakforest at Lido and Watonga and had it. I moved to 2 miles away into Candlelight Estates on Bethlehem and Belle Glade at the begining of last year, and we do not have U-verse. One street over on Latexo they enjoy recording shows on one central box and being able to watch them from any room in the house. They enjoy the actual on demand library that Comcast claims to have, but doesn't really have jack chit. They get to watch TV shows "on demand" as soon as they're over, as opposed to the Crapcast method of making you wait until 1 day after the following week's episode airs. I've seen AT&T trucks on my street and neighboring blocks for the last nearly 2 years, but I've yet to get an AT&T Uverse flyer in the mail. I'm stuck with Com-craptastic!

Who do I have to bribe to get some U-verse on my street?!?! Can CONGRESS-WOMANNNNNN Sheila Jackson Lee help me with this?

Rant over.

Some neighborhoods are tied via contract to a certain provider. That is the way for Eagle Springs up in Atascocita.

Otherwise, it depends on your distance to the AT&T CO.

Don't get uverse, it is garbage. Had it for a month and will be switching back to dish asap.

What don't you like about uverse? I've had it for about 2 years now and I like it ok.

My u-verse box goes out constantly. Every time they "fix" it they have some reason why it was messed up but then it just goes out again. What makes it worse is that it usually does it on the weekends when their customer service is closed.

Plus they aren't as cheap as they used to be.

It's based on distance from their nearest hub. This is where all the fiber comes into one box then branches out on copper to the homes. The U-Verse signal doesn't travel well over long distances on copper (too much bandwidth is what I was told) even with repeaters. Therefore only houses within a certain radius of the hub can get it.
I can get it at my house but people down the block cannot.

Another issue is that U-Verse is very finicky with the copper connections on the house. I basically had to have my house rewired to get it to work properly. AT&T paid for it with a little complaining from me. We had the same issue as Frok until they rewired everything after the fourth trip out.

Long story short, too late. I dropped cable completely in June last year and have an HD antenna and U-Verse intertron. Have yet to miss a show or game I want to watch.

What exactly is uverse intertron?

High speed whateverbrand broadband is sensitive to the garbage quality wiring in the typical house, especially older homes, and that includes the coax/telphone/and electrical, plus all the crap plugged into it that emits interfering signals.

There are two types of Uverse, fiber to the Node, and Fiber to the Prem. The FTTP network is in new construction, and like Verizon Fios is completely fiber until it gets on the house's own wiring at the customer interface. The FTTN network uses traditional copper already in place for the last mile, and due to the 25-100mbps bandwidths we're talking about, it is very distance sensitive, about half a mile or less from the equipment location as measured electrically on each individual copper wire pair. They can pair bond, which is using a double set of copper pairs to get to nearly a mile, where that technology is implemented, but that requires a special allocation of extra copper pairs that have to be set up and pre-tested.

The availability in already built out areas is determined by how the copper wiring was originally laid out 10 or 20 or 50 years ago when your area was originally wired. Not all areas make economic sense to deploy at, when you are talking 6 figures worth of equipment at each site.

PM me your address if you want me to take a closer look for U-verse.

Uverse sells a broadband only option, in two different technology formats. I know they go up to 18mb, depending on what your local network would support.

Is this true of Eagle Springs? We live in Summerwood which is a Newland development just like ES, and EnTouch is the community "preferred" provider, but we are in no way required to use them. We dumped them when they couldn't figure out how to make our HD work. And they carry the LHN. We've had both UVerse and Comcast here.

I can 100% guarantee you that Eagle Springs and Summerwood are NOT contractually tied to any any provider. Both communities have public easements and any provider that is willing to put in the infrastructure is welcome to provide service. No Newland Community has any exclusive contract with any provider.

After 3 years with uverse, I just switched to DirecTV. Still have Uverse cable.

SAme channels, better picture (not compressed), and $45/month cheaper ($540/year)

Call Brent with DirecTV (he's an Aggie on TexAgs). Give him my referral #057808269, and we'll both save an additional $100.

Maybe I misunderstood my friend...when I asked him if he could get uverse, he said he could only get X or Y because of an agreement with the providers. He said he had called AT&T and was told they weren't allowed to install uverse service for him.

This was also 2 years ago...

I thought Centurylink prevented Uverse in Eagle Springs. Centurylink was supposed to come out with a comparable product but I haven't seen anything.

We couldn't get Uverse when we first moved to Summerwood in Sept. 2008. Something about they hadn't completed enough of their installation to reach us.

I forget which provider we had before that but they sucked big-time.

Got Uverse and never looked back. Have it for TV/phone/interwebs.

I just talked to my guy at AT&T and Eagle Springs/Kingwood don't have Uverse b/c AT&T would have to replace all their copper lines with fiber optic lines in the area and they're not willing to do so yet.

False. I'd rather not disclose why, but I know for a fact that this is not true. I'm not disputing that AT&T said that, just the validity behind their statement if they did in fact say that. AT&T was actually encouraged to provide service by the developer. It's to the advantage of the residents in the community to have as many options as possible available. Marauder hit the nail on the head, AT&T just doesn't want to invest in the infrastructure to serve that area so they claim they're not allowed to save face.
