How long do you want to ignore this user?
The husband and I have been planning on putting in a paver stone patio to replace the dinky little 8x8 concrete slab that came with our house. He was planning on doing it himself, but considering I can't help him now we are thinking it might be better to have it done by someone who can do it quicker and probably better than we can.

He asked me to get some recommendations from Texags so we could get some quotes. Thanks!

We live in Spring if location matters.

Yeah, I didn't figure it was...luckily we are not doing a very big area. It's bigger than the 8x8 slab, but we're not doing anything extensive. We just want a rectangle that extends out to the edge of the house instead of stopping a foot short on one side and 10-12 short on the other.

I don't know if I can stand having it completed over the course of a few weekends if my poor husband does it himself with no help.

You can, and it will be a lot cheaper, especially if he has a few friends help

He has one friend that can help...and that friend is working so many hours right now he's not available most weekends. I know he COULD do it, but we may not want to...which is why we are looking for quotes. I really have no preference...either way, my pregnant self will be sitting inside in the AC. My husband will be the one to decide whether he wants to do it all alone or have someone else do it.

You are looking at about $13 or more sq/ft.

Yes, I had seen numbers from 12-16 per sq foot online, I just wanted to see if anyone here had a company they'd recommend before I start calling the random ones near us.

rach, we JUST had our back patio done last week by Arbor Landscaping, and they did a great job. Its not cheap, but they do it right.

They did a new fence, paver patio, new sod & tree trimming for us.

They will come out and give a free estimate and discuss everything you want to do and customize it to your liking.

Oh, very nice! That looks about like the size area we are wanting to do. I like the curve they did! And the baby is super cute as well Thanks for the recommendation!

I have no idea what color will look best with our house. We have this weird almost pink-ish gray-ish brick. Sounds hideous but it's really not...it's just really hard to match pavers and landscaping stones to.

They brought out several different colors & styles to choose from from thier stoneyard.

If anything would be worth a call for them to come out and give an estimate. They were really laid back and are willing to work to your needs.

That's great they bring out samples, that will be helpful. It looks like they did an awesome job with your yard. I'll definitely give them a call, thanks!

$12-16 a sq ft? Man that seems high, I have a friend who does pools and he had his guys come out and do my flagstone for $10 a sq ft where there was existing concrete and $14 a sq ft where they had to add concrete.

I know this doesn't help much. Might just be something to consider.

Carry on.

Why do they have to add concrete? I thought pavers just went down on packed ground? My husband knows more about it than I do, I didn't really ask him for details. I just know he was talking about knocking out our slab then renting the machine to pack and level the ground.

My brother in law does this. Would you like his contact info?

Generally with Pavers you want a nice level base, then a gravel course, then a sand course, then compact the sand and set the pavers, and then sweep more sand into the joints.

If you are doing flagstone you can do it that way with very thick pieces or you can mortar the flagstone over concrete, which is what the other poster was talking about when he was mentioning adding concrete.

Paver work is generally pretty easy to DIY, but you will need to rent a wet saw for cutting the pavers. Also you have to be very patient when setting up the base and getting it level. If you try to rush through that the whole thing will look terrible and won't last.

This is the site of a guy I graduated with. He does work all over the state and does some really good work. In the past he has done a few jobs where he worked with the homeowner and brought the tools and supplies as well as the knowledge and experience, but he might work with your husband in order to save some labor costs.

Ah, gotcha...I can see how you would put flagstone over concrete. We definitely want pavers, not flagstone. Thanks for the website, I'll have my husband talk to him as well.

OnlyForNow, sure! You can send it to rachag03 at hotmail dot com.
