So my wife got back to her car after her Stroller Stride class to find the rear driver side window smashed and her purse gone.

I already avoid West Pearland because the traffic is horrific. I have always heard the crime there is insane too and now I have personal proof.

Anywho looking to move to West Pearland, avoid it like the plague!!! ugh!

The "West" qualifier wasn't really necessary.

Obligatory dont leave your purse or any personal valuable items in plain site in your car within a 100 mile radius of Houston.

I think the West qualifier is necessary. From the newspapers I've read there are MANY more of these types of crimes on that side of town, with the big shopping strips and easy access to 288 for a speedy get-a-away.

I'm sure you don't think it was necessary.

You also thought it was a good idea to live in Pearland.

I dunno, lived there for almost 15 years and I still feel safe.

The traffic, though. Yeah, brutal for a town that size.

You are suprised that the car got broken into or you are surprised your wife left the purse in it? Cuz only the latter is suprising to me.

I would expect the car to get broken into almost anywhere with a purse sitting out visible. Just the crappy way things have gotten.

In Silverlake for 3+ years and love it. I rarely deal with traffic with all the back roads. Not counting the commute up 288 but I leave early enough that it is still 25 mins door to door (downtown). Never had any safety issues.

The bar formerly known as Cabo, Nortons, and Bad Fish is now re-opened. I think it's called American Grill. Looks to have a nice bar on the porch now. Also a sports bar has opened in PTC (pearland town center). Haven't tried either yet.

That location for whatever reason just can't get anything going, but someone new just insists on opening something with the same concept there everytime it closes down. Probably because Centercourt just behind them takes all the business.

I've been in W Pearland since 2002 and watched the growth of the city first hand.

I'd attribute the perceived crime issue to 2 things:

1. Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart in of itself isn't the problem, but b/c the west side one is the only location for South Houston/East Missouri city, the hoodrats pull a Bob Barker and come on down.

2. Economy is in the tank compared to several years ago.

Sorry you got busted into, but if your wife left anything of value in plain sight like a purse, that' just not smart for W. Pearland or really anywhere.

I've been there since 04, but happy to say that the first weekend we put our home on the market we got an offer from the first and only visit and we just went through option period. Standard loan with 20% down so we should be good to close.

And we close on a house in Memorial end of this month

I'll miss the "elbow room" in the burbs, all the walking trails and ponds, and the ocean breezes.

The criminal element is all over Houston, but certainly the 288 Getaway makes it worse.

Oh, and I'll miss Centercourt pizza. It's worth driving back for.

And why they named it Stroller Strides instead of Stollaerobics is beyond me...

my wife would never even think about leaving her purse in her car. In the past if she did, she put it in the trunk. (we both don't have trunks anymore)

that's def. the first and bigger problem. the location is secondary to this.

madams, definately funny to bump into you here. Congrats on the new little one. I can't wait to meet him

My wife always hides her stuff. In fact last week we had some friends in town for the Final Four, the wife joined my wife at Stroller Strides and my wife even made a point to tell her to hide her purse. It just so happened that on Friday my wife was running late and forgot to hide the purse. She said she even thought about it during the workout. Of course as luck has it the one time she doesn't hide it is the one time it gets jacked.

Yes I know it's unwise to leave it in sight anywhere in Houston, but that area is just extra shady. The cop on the case said they had two calls there last week for the same thing. The security cam shows it was a white car and they are trying to hunt them down now.
