Hard to just say there is 1 best place when there are so many cuisine types.

i'm impressed feast is right out of the gates.

this is tough. does best mean, best by a consensus of objective reviews, best by being the closest to a french ideal, or just your personal favorite?

feast definitely deserves consideration for the ballsy-ness of their approach, and for execution as well.

for the old school approach, tony's?

reef gets tons of pub. RDG and bar annie are very well respected. brennans gets tons of love, but it's a new orleans transplant. i've heard very good things about mark's.

that's all that comes to mind at the moment.

Going from popular consensus from people I've talked with I would say the short list would be

Mark's
Vic & Anthony's
Del Friscos
Tony's

for me it's about the execution, deliciousness of everything, quality for the price, and how it encourages you to try new stuff.

I haven't tried every steak house in town, but of those I have had, I enjoyed the Cowboy steak at Schula's (Hyatt Downtown).

Mark's and Pappas Steakhouse

Is Trulucks in the discussion? I never been.

No, Truluck's is not in the conversation. Don't get me wrong, I really like the place but it's not in the top 5. Probably not even in the top 20. I don't put Del Frisco's up there either.

I'm going to go with Feast and thought I've heard Mark's has slacked somewhat and I haven't been in probably 2.5 years the last time I went it was still amazing.

Tony's is good but it seems more about style than substance. Haven't been to RDG/Bar Annie but Cafe Annie was phenomenal.

Tough question with lots of room for debate depending on how you frame what constitutes the "best" restaurants.

unlimited budget - Da Marco
moderate budget (classic)- Cafe Rabelais
moderate budget (contemporary) - Catalan/Ibiza

maybe not 'the best' but some personal faves include Catalan, Masraffs, V&A, Pappa Bros Steakhouse, and Lucios (BYOW is a big plus)

Pretty broad, but if limited to just one I'd go with Reef. Tony's, Feast, 3 Forks and Mo's round out my top 5.

RDG is bizarre, with chili powder on literally everything.
