I may be way behind on this, but I came across the ballpark renderings and logo for the new independent team in Sugar Land.

That looks nice for only 30 million. I hope Olsen gets close to this with the 24 million renovation.

that's damned nice for independent league hardball. Grand Prairie has QuikTrip (the Tine is SERIOUSLY missing out on QuikTrip, btw) Park for their independent team, it's decent and appropriately sized, but nothing near as nice as this looks.

Considering the design plans I've seen and worked on and knowing the lay of Oyster Creek from an environmental stand point. The park looks awesome, but the surroundings will be quite different then what is shown.

it's being built over by the old Imperial Sugar factory, and the team name was either going to be skeeters, lizard kings or king canes despite the obvious "Imperials" being the best name idea

Thunder18, they decided on Skeeters. Imperials was the best idea. Not sure why they didn't even consider it.

You know that Skeeters (the restaurant) is happy about this.

I too thought that they should have named it the Imperials. I also thought they should have a penguin be the logo/mascot (emperor penguins). Apparently the Imperials was the #1 vote getter. I think the team said that they couldn't use it because of Imperial Sugar. I have a hard time believing that Imperial Sugar's trademark is so broad that it would prevent it. They don't own the word Imperial.

All that being said, its not a bad name. Should be a good addition to Sugar Land.

It will be real nice if they have a game when they are downwind of a TMA batch that is going on next to the old Sugar Plant

I actually kind of liked the King Canes name.

If King Cane had been chosen our mascot would have either been a pimp or a cobra.
