We went to Vida Loca on Sunday for brunch on Kingsland and it was awesome!! The food was really great and was only 11 bucks for the buffet, and another 3 bucks if you wanted them to bring out fresh fajitas to the table. I would recommend to anyone looking for a great brunch to sit out on the patio and enjoy the weather and follow it up with an "I ate too much mexican food" nap.

Sass, you and Mr Sass might have to go with us one Sunday.

Thanks for the heads up. It looks like our Sundays are quite booked for a while, but let us know next time you go and we will see what we can do.

Every friday, me and my family go to Omars on Fry rd off I 10 just on the south side next to radio shack

i grew up in katy. some of the best mexican restaurants in the city reside out there. omars, vida loca, los cucos (the one on 90 is the original), el jarrito, las rosas (RIP), cazadores, etc. there's another one on mason that's really good too. it's called guanahuato or something.

Omar's was my family's old school stomping grounds.

Now that they live in Firethorne, the original Los Cucos on 90 is the place. In fact, it was dinner tonight.

There's a new place on Fry @ 99 next to the Hobby Lobby/HEB, can't recall the name but it was quite tasty.

And there is a Lupe's Tortilla being built on 99 @ Kingsland.

We always like the fajitas at Los Cucos. When I first moved to Katy, back when I was still single, I always went to Las Rosas. Never figured what happened with that place, it was always good.

Vida Loca has turned into my families new place when I come back in town. We lived in Old Katy but always drove to Omar's back in the day, it was a Friday night/Sunday after church place for us.

Hey Megs, we were at a sales meeting in San Antonio last week, and most parts of that trip are hazy....

Rancho Grande is the place over on Fry Rd by the HEB. I've never been, but I have heard good things about it.

We frequent Omars and Los Cucos for the most part. Love Omars...

CRA,

i can't remember the story about las rosas, but i think their lease on that spot ended and the tenants jacked the rent, so they moved out to 99 into a poor location and it flopped. but i do agree the food there was great.

Las Rosas was Ninfa's to a certain degree. Two bartenders from the Ninfas that was on Mason Rd. opened that place up using a lot of the same recipes for the food at a little bit better price.

By the way not to go off topic entirely, but you would do yourself a favor if you tried that place Mr. Jim's Ice House over off I-10 and 1463, they have solid Hamburgers there with hand cut french fries and the beer is cheap. It located right where the old driving range used to be.

My top 3:

El Jarrito
El Rancho (both locations, North Fry and 99/Fry) - best homemade corn tortillas around.
La Vida Loca - $1 beers during happy hour.

I ate at El Rancho a few weeks ago. Those fajitas with melted monteray jack cheese on top with chipotle sauce was legit

Marco's and Monterrey House will always dominate the Katy Mexican food scene.

I'm personally a big fan of La Finca.

I noticed the other day they are opening another La Finca over off of 1093 right at the entrance of Westheimer Lakes.

'The fink' was where my high school buddies and I would get together and BS after school. We ate at that place once or twice a week.

Where's the love for Tony's on Mason?

The one time we went in there I was sicker than a dog that evening and next day. Not necessarily their fault but it's hard to overlook the possibility that it was something I ate there.

Tony's is pretty terrible, in my opinion. I've never got the love affair with Cuco's. It's mediocre at best.
Mailinator1892
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Funt, we like Tony's.

I've heard Tony's is good. We prefer Vida Loca and El Jarrito. If you want something more low key, try Cafe del Sol. It's very little, but really good. The staff is pretty cool too. They'll remember you and your order after a few trips.

Del Sol is on just to the west of Mason, right? I've eaten there once and liked it.

I have a question, what is it with Mexican food restaurants in Katy where your tea glass never gets below being half empty. It's good service but from time to time it can get annoying.
Mailinator1892
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Totally agree RedAgs, it takes about 3 fillups before I get the sweetness right. By the third or fourth time there is more ice than tea OR about 2 cubes of ice and a full glass of tea.

RedAgs - that's the one!

We have been goin to Omars for 20 years, and we are so regular, our service is crappy because they know we will still keep going back.
