The palces I like that are BYOB are Palazzo's and La Vista. Palazzos is off Westheimer and Briar Ridge I believe (there are 3 in the city, but this is the one we go to), and La Vista is on Fountain View by the Rice Epicurean. Both darn good. I like Palazzo's better. Great bread at Palazzo's.

And Palazzo's doesn't always hit you up for all if any of the corking fees, and La Vista doesn't miss one.

La Fendee has Middle Eastern food, not Greek. (Although the two cuisines are similar).

Two Saints

Benignus and Memorial
Fonna Villas area of Memorial

How about some education? The restaurant is named for the two saints named Benignus.

Saint Benignus of Armagh (? - 467), son of Sesenen, was an Irish chieftain in that part of Ireland which is now County Meath. He was baptised into the Catholic faith by St. Patrick, and became his favourite disciple and his coadjutor in the Diocese of Armagh around A.D. 450. His gentle and lovable disposition suggested the name Benen, which has been Latinised as Benignus.

Saint Benignus of Dijon (in French, Saint Bénigne) was a martyr honored as the patron saint and first herald of Christianity of Dijon, Burgundy (Roman Divio). His feast falls, with All Saints, on November 1; his name stands under this date in the Martyrology of St. Jerome[1]. No particulars concerning the person and life of Benignus were known at Dijon.[2] He may have been a missionary priest from Lyon, martyred at Epagny under Aurelian (ruled 270-75), near Dijon.

related to this, I've been to places in the Heights that are BYOB but charge an "alcohol fee". Is this something with the local Heights Government? Have any of you experienced similar things in other parts of Houston?

most places will charge a 'corking fee'

I've only been once but the food was awful.

The hummus looked and tasted like it was out of a can, the tabouli was acrid and the chicken kabob was microwaved.

Maybe I should have drank more before eating.

Dry creek if you are in the mood for a burger. Have never been charged a corkage (or bottlecap) fee there.

There's a byob Thai place @ 290 & 610 called Thai lanna -haven't tried it yet but looks promising.

We went a few months ago, and were charged a corkage fee. It was fairly minimal (something like $3-4 for the table) so you probably just missed it on the bill.

I checked the bill and am positive we weren't charged. Guess it depends on your server.

La Vista is a well-deserved mention. It is BYOB with a great atmosphere, a terrific menu, and the liquor store is right next door. Don't be discouraged by the older shopping center that houses it.

I think Ruggles Cafe in Rice is BYOW. It's not flashy but for a deli/lunch type establishment, the food is fresh as well as delicious.

I also endorse Dry Creek. I've only been during the day, but if/when we see comfortable weather in the Tine, this is a great leisurely lunch spot to sit outdoors and sip the vino or some cold beers.

Lola in the heights is solid. Although it's more of a colina's atmosphere than lucios.

Also, i know you asked for byow, but zelko bistro has surprisingly small margins on their wine. I've had several bottles and the price was like buying from a small liquor store as opposed to specs.
