Hi 63 °F

We have around 55 kids under the age of 18 going, and 90 people total. What do you guys think?

If you cancel, it will not rain. Please keep your trip scheduled as is so we can get some much needed precipitation!

Sorry, really don't have any good advice for you.

I was a Scout leader for 8 yrs. Nothing worse than having a bunch of kids cold and wet. Try and have a lockin at your church. Kids like that sort of thing. Invite them to bring TV's with x-box, board games, have some plans of your own as well. Good luck, God Bless.

Isn't there a burn ban too?

Yes, Walker County is under a burn ban:

This weekend does look to be fairly wet, but we could sure use the rain. If you want, you can always call the NWS office here in town and ask them what they think about the rain chances this weekend.

rain is easy to deal with...rain + cold = miserable campers.

I called HSP and they told me that there is no burn ban inside the park.

I also sent this letter to all campers:

quote:
Hey guys! Hope you're all doing well. If you registered several kids under the same e-mail address, please make sure this information gets passed on accordingly:

If you've been watching the weather, you know that there is some talk of conditions being pretty crazy for our trip. In light of this fact, I wanted to send this email to remind you to COME PREPARED! It is going to be cold and wet, so dress warm and bring extra clothes. Bring gloves, umbrellas, rain jackets, beanies, warm socks, long john underwear, heavy jackets, whatever will keep you warm! We will have a covered trailer available for you to put your clothes and sleeping gear in during the day to keep them dry, and we encourage everyone to set your tent up on high ground. I would suggest that you tent dwellers bring tarps that can be attached to trees around your tent, via rope, to help keep some of the rain off of you. Cabin folk, plastic to cover your windows would probably be a smart idea, too. ****** and ******................well, we hope you enjoy your dry pop up trailers....we'll all be in our tents saying nothing but good things about you!

Those of you who need a ride....YOU NEED TO BE AT THE CHURCH BY 5:15 ON FRIDAY! The bus will leave without you if you are not there @ 5:15.

Now, I understand if some of you would rather not have to suffer through these conditions, so this is your time to cancel. You now have fair notice that things may not be very favorable this weekend, weather-wise. If you do not cancel, and choose to head on out with us, that is your decision, and therefore, any person who complains or lets the weather affect their attitude towards God and what He wants to do this weekend, will be thrown into the lake and used as Gator-bait. Please let me know if you decide not to come so we will not be expecting you, ESPECIALLY YOU GUYS RIDING THE CHURCH BUS!

I'm still expecting awesome things from God, and I hope that you are too! Be in prayer these next couple of days, as you surely know there is nothing that God can't do.............that includes changing the weather!

Might want to get some waivers signed by parents before you feed their children to alligators.

Jus sayin..

BAH! I did my fair share of scout campouts in the cold and rain. Made you learn what to bring and what not to bring.

If you can get one, try to get a "taj mahal" (our troop lingo). It is a white tent, 8 legs (4 on a side) and has a peaked roof. One tarp covers it; can put about 3 picinic tables under it. We would bring one and we would congregate under it when it rained (peaked roof means no collection of water and you have at least 2 dry tables to eat/cook on/play cards/dominoes.

vag campers.

Go, the crappier the trip is, the better it will be years from now looking back.

Don't cancel it.

Make sure you have a good campsite that won't fill with water and use ground cloths so water doesn't soak in the bottom of their tents (be sure to fold the edges under the tent so water doesn't collect between the tent floor and ground cloth)

I'll be out enjoying this lovely weather at Enchanted Rock in a tent.

actually, the better practice is to put the tarp inside the tent. unless the tent has one built in on the bottom already. otherwise you're just asking to funnel the water into the bottom and keep it there.

I assume this is for church?

Just remember that rain and cold is grounds for a wet t-shirt contest.
