There is a billboard on 290 just inside the Sam Houston Road that has the old radio stations add. Saw it the other day and it reminded me of growing up listening to it. That morning show was solid.I remember my dad and I trying to call in to win a corvette back in the day. Good Times.

stevens, pruitt, and the boner.

I grew up on Rock 101. Stevens and Pruitt, Outlaw Dave, I have a lot of memories of that station. I was really sad when they turned it into a Mexican station. We used to listen to it every Friday and Saturday night in my friend's garage back in high school, and when they shut it down I remember my friend's mom telling us that SHE had listened to it since it started when she was young, back in the 70's. Nuts man. We lost a great piece of Houston history when they took Rock 101 from us.

I think it was only a matter of time, at least for Houston. Most people don't listen to the radio, at least not english speakers.

Buddy works for the owners of La Raza and 3 other stations, along with Chennel 61 (I think that is it). The radio stations are making more money than anything right now. They WANT to own more stations on FM, since you get better reception and more $$$ off of it. I guess Sirius/XM killed the rock station.

Imagine my suprise when I moved up here and turned on the raio!

outlaw dave still rocks the 950.

Yes, I definitely remember those chrome-head logos everywhere in Houston. Lockers, cars and book covers were covered in those things.

I once met an owner of KLOL (the parent communications company) & told him that story. He thought it was cool that the rumor was floating around.

We used to have a few of the radio personalities stop by our auction when we were located on Lovett (right down the street from the station).

Jim Pruett is at El Charro (on Huffmeister) almost every night.....really nice guy.

Outlaw Dave definitely jams. At work I will sometimes listen to 99.5 KISS out of San Antonio. IMO, one of the best rock stations out there. Nothing like getting a sh-tty project from your boss and then having some Pantera or Static X come on. Makes you want to yank your laptop out of the docking station and smash it through your window and then walk outside if your office and form tackle someone. Or maybe that is just me....

Yeah, I miss ZRock too...

I remember listening to them, and my parents getting mad because I was listening to "devil music"!

Then I went to 92.1....

And I loved working at a camp west of San Marcos. We got 101.5 from Austin and 99.5 from SA. Best of both worlds (always had music, no commercials!).

I went through my cuzie collection the other day and I found my blue foam KLOL 101 cuzie that has the jutebox rocking out!

Listening to KISS in SA makes me sad that Houston doesn't have a good heavy or all round rock station. It is only classic rock or whatever they play on the buzz.

I woke up to Stevens and Pruitt everyday for along time.

Dave is on Houston 950AM. Are you sure it's the same guy? The big networks sometimes replicate dj personas in different cities. Good for him if he's syndicating.

101.1 was on air for 30 years in houston...I was so mad when they changed it to a shetty latino station...super weak

Why can't Houston have a:

1) Texas country/Americana/Alt Country station
2) Rock 101
3) Texas rap station

if i ever become independently wealthy...and i'm certainly not on track for that...i would make all of those things happen.

i loved the uncle waldo skits in the morning

and it still baffles me why there is no hard rock station in houston. hell corpus has one for crying out loud and it's great!

You must be talking about Anton LaVey as he is the person that wrote the Satanic Bible in 1969. I wrote my senior paper on the Satanic Bible waaaay back in 1975 just to piss off my teacher. It worked.
