If all you want is sushi, I'm not sure, but our go-to place is (yes, a chain) Miyako at Kirby and 59, usually get one of the box meals.

i normally go to kubo's in the village or zake on w. alabama. just trying to mix things up.

i love escolar sashimi and kubo's doesn't carry it. i usually get a mix of sashimi or rolls if they have something that looks interesting.

This little place in a strip center off of 290 near Spring Cypress. Looks like nothing on the outside, but the employees are ALL Japanese. The chefs are ALL Japanese. The Sushi and tsushimi is also ALL Japanese.

A couple of people that are bigtime cullinary freaks I know that I totally trust recommendations told me about the place. I have yet to make it over there.

I guess I am going to have to give Fish another try, I did not think it was that good.

Azuma is alright. I liked Ra, but I heard it went downhill.

713 is good.

Lucky Village on Westheimer close to the beltway!

This has got to be the worst advise of all time. Unless, of course, they were looking for a complete and total colon clinsing.

Soma is pretty good and seemed reasonably price for a sushi place.

I love Ra.

I had Oishii for the first time this week. Certainly a hole in the wall, but it was really good and really cheap. Great for lunch.

The ex gf was a sushi conosur, so I've had a chance to sample several places around town.

Soma is probably the best I've encountered in Houston. The chef is an African American Britt (go figure), but the dude is a cullinary genius. Everything I've had there has been excellent.

Uptown Sushi, in my opinion, has the most creative rolls.

Sage 400 doesn't get a lot of press, but they always deliver on freshness and style.

There's a relatively new place called Zushi, at Memorial and Westcott that I can get behind. The menu is peaking. The head chef, Chris, studied under the famed founder of Nobu. If you ask him to come up with a unique specialty roll on the spot, he'll come through. Nice if you're bringing a little mamacita with you!

RA might be a bit overrated by the menu, but makes up for it with atmosphere.

Fish is pretty damn solid. I never have complaints (minus the wait at 9pm on weekends).

Has anyone tried Blue Fish House on Richmond (b/w Kirby and Shepherd)? I wouldn't say they are amazing, but they offer some good stuff for a really good price.

Myako is old faithful. You're never stunned, but you always know what you're going to get.

Rickshaw, Azuma, Zake, Taiko, and Kubo round it out. They do some things right.

My personal favorites: Sage 400, Soma and Zake. Aka on West Alabama is pretty good too.

Really like Sage 400 and Kubo's. Soma seemed more like a club and we left food on our plates which never happens.

Blue Fish is good too.

Get the cold, unfiltered sake. Yums.

unfiltered sake is call nigori sake (not a brand name, but a style).

Nigori is much sweeter than filtered sake, and can be very good if done well.
