What's the rule of thumb for parking at IAH versus hiring a car/taking a cab?

I'll be leaving for a two week business trip. Would it be cheaper park-n-fly or hire a car? I live in burbs, 290 & Mason.

I don't travel that much, so pardon my ignorance.

Last time I checked, car hire was around $60-70 each way from in town to IAH and parking at the Terminal is $15/day. I don't know how much Park and Fly is though.

Hope that helps.

if it's company paid, i'd park at the airport. i prefer to get to my car right away after a business trip rather than have to ride with someone home. just my preference.

i always use the parking spot on JFK.

edit: i think parking spot is like 10 bucks for uncovered, maybe 13-14 for covered per day.

Is "the spot" that yellow and black polka dot place?

yep. free bottled water and newspaper...i park there at least twice a month with zero problems. It is $9 a day I think for covered parking.

if that's high for you, try parking cents...that one is ok too, just not covered. edit: $6 for parking cents per day

The Parking Spot on Will Clayton

One of the most secure as well.

I always use parking cents (city owned economy lot). Like someone else said, its $6/day and not covered, but the shuttle service is always prompt (almost every time i walk out of the airport there is one already waiting to pick me up) and they drop you off right by your car.

You can also use your toll EZ tag for parking cents. I think you have to call and set it up to be able to do that.

My favorite shuttle parking place is Fast Park & Relax on Greens Rd. just west of JFK. $4.78/day covered parking (+tax) with internet coupon, free bottled water and newspaper.

Another vote for Fast Park & Relax. Get the internet coupon and you have $4.78/day covered parking. I returned from LAX last week on a late flight (original was canceled, but that's another story). I walked out the door at IAH right around midnight and there was a FP&R van waiting.

I always go to The Parking Spot on JFK, but here lately I have been very disappointed in how long it takes for them to do pick ups (at Term C!), thinking of switching to Will Clayton.

A man I sat next to on a plane last week said he valets at the Parking Spot for about $15 per day. He said when they arrive back at the lot from the terminal, they have his car started and someone is there waiting for him to put his luggage in the trunk.

He also downed 3 bottles of vodka in about 30 minutes. Alas, I cannot find confirmation of valet on their website.

Edit: I flew out of IAH early Monday morning last week and without warning on any of the signs you pass under as you enter the airport, Terminal C parking was closed. Not sure if that's still the case. I parked at E.

Last time I parked at IAH for a week, I parked at the terminal and paid $15. I got to the airport 7 days before...about 30 minutes before my flight took off. In the hurry, I lost my parking ticket. When I left the parking lot, the attendant asked for my ticket and I told her I lost it. She informed I would have to pay one full days rate of $15. I said 'Ok' and paid her and left. She didn't ask anything more and I didn't volunteer any more.

So, maybe you can 'lose' your parking ticket somewhere along the way.

That's got to be worth a shot over a 2 day trip to see if there is any consistency to it....
