How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'm driving from Austin to Galveston in a couple of weeks. I typically come in on I-10, rather than 290 since I live in South Austin.

Any suggestions on the quickest way to get through/around Houston? I have a TxTag, if that helps.

Thanks in advance.

(Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere -- we get lots of questions like this about the best way to get around Austin at rush hour too)

If it's before say 3pm just stay on I-10 til 45 south.

If it's creeping up in the afternoon take the Sam Houston Tollway south to I-45 south.

If you want to take the back roads, just before Katy take the Grand Parkway south to 59, go north a bit to HWY6, then take 6 south until it hits 45 south.

Thanks. I hope to be in Galveston by 3, so I should be through in time to take your straightforward suggestion.

I'd take 8 around unless you're driving in off hours (maybe 9:30 to 1 or 2pm)...1-10 inbound can get ugly by mid afternoon.

I second this. I wish I had a dollar each time I have driven this route.

Avoid downtown and the Pierce Elevated and Hiway 6 is too slow with way too many red lights.

Go Beltway 8 to 45 South.
